I've tried both methods but unforchenetly my touchpad still isn't working.
Mouse stopped working (Windows 8.1)
This is the second time this has happened to my laptop comupter. Last time i had multiple issuse to where I had to factory restart it. This time its just the touchpad. The night before my computer preformed an update when I did a shut down; when I turned it on the next morning the touchpad wouldn't responed or show the mouse icon on the screen.

I would suggest you to restore your PC to an earlier point of time when it was working fine by referring to the steps mentioned below:
1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.)
2. Enter Control Panel in the search box, and tap or click Control Panel.
3. Enter Recovery in the Control Panel search box, and then tap or click Recovery.
4. Tap or click Open System Restore, and then follow the instructions.
Important Note : When you use System Restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you installed are removed.

Method 1:
Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter and check.
Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:
a) Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar.
b) Click on Search, type Troubleshooting and click Troubleshooting under Settings.
c) Click on View All.
d) Select Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter.
e) Click next to Run the Troubleshooter.
Method 2:
Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
