I am trying to get a game, Fallout 4: Game of The Year Edition, to run on my computer using windows 10. The Software manufacturer's website describes that games for windows live is required to run the game. When I try to download the games for windows live client from http://www.xbox.com/en-IE/Live/PC/DownloadClient, I receive an error stating,"A network error occurred while attempting to get information from the Server. Check your network connection and try again." My internet connection is working correctly. I can access the internet just fine. I also ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter and that stated, "Service registration is missing or corrupt." I already followed the steps to the letter in a post i found at: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider\_wintp-insider\_update/windows-10-service-registration-is-missing-or/a2bfb3c3-665f-4f22-92d9-cf82f0a950be?page=1

Is there a way to actually download and install the Games For Windows Live client? I'm stuck here.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

From the description, I understand that you are unable to install Games.

I would recommend you to follow the below given methods and check if it fixes the issue.

Method 1: Try to install the Game in Clean boot.

Placing your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. Check this issue in clean boot state.

    1. Press Windows key + X key. And select Run.
    2. Type msconfig in the Run box and hit Enter.
    3. On the Services tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then tap or click Disable all.
    4. On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click Open Task Manager.
    5. On the Startup tab in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then click Disable.
    6. Close Task Manager.
    7. On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click OK, and then restart the computer.

Note: After clean boot troubleshooting step, follow the section "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot" in the provided link to return your computer to Normal startup mode.

If issue still persists try method 2,

Method 2: Refer to the article and check if it helps.

If issue still persists try method 3,

    **Method 3:**Disable security software temporarily

Disable security software temporarily and check if the issue persists.

Disclaimer:  Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance with Windows.

For anyone that finds this article, you can try getting the GFWL marketplace client from Xbox.com/en-gb or going to this link.

So back then, the game was actually Fallout 3 GOTY. I was able to play the game without Games for Windows Live. There was some redistributable file that I installed that came with the game that was in a folder or something. I was able to run Fallout 3 GOTY on Windows 10 no issues.
