    Hi Anupam,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Community.

As per the issue description and the error code which you are getting while running "slmgr//ato" command, it seems that you are having issue in activating your Windows.

    Use of slmgr//ato command:

For retail editions and volume systems with a KMS host key or a Multiple Activation Key (MAK) installed, /ato prompts Windows to attempt online activation. Activate Windows license and product key against Microsoft's server.

If you are getting error code 0x80072EF7 then I would suggest you to try the steps provided in the article provided below and see if it helps you to fix the issue.

Error 0x8007232b or 0x8007007B occurs when you try to activate Windows

    Hi Ramesh.

    Thank You for your reply.

Today, i called up again to Microsoft technical support helpline ans stated my concern again. this time they told me that "the product ID" which i'm using is activated on other computers but still find my windows genuine. I wonder, earlier chat session held with technical support told me no one can use the same key which i'm using. If it someone tries to do it it won't affect my computer because i am the one who is authentic and first user. i can't understand why are there different versions of truths in the company for same issue ?

I'm feeling very sad that company like Microsoft is not able to do something for their customers like me who are less techno savvy and want to become authentic user of windows ! Now, i think there must be some connection between "error" i mentioned above and same key activation on another system.  i am afraid how would it affect my system if some other systems get activated through same key. I don't know what are the services i will not be able to enjoy if my windows become ingenuine later.Kindly guide me how to raise my complain in best manner (in terms of argument)  to dealer or whatsoever competent authority is .

    Regards-

    Anupam

    Hi Anupam,

Thank you for the update on the issue.

Yes, I agree with you and your concern about the product key. It is true that your computer seller might give the same product key to other person too as a token of gift. If other person use the same key to activate his OS then you might get pop up to activate your Windows or other activation errors.

You may refer to the article mentioned below to check if your OS is genuine.

Thank you  Ramesh for your help, but i can't execute these technical stuffs on my computer. I an afraid that i might loose original settings since i'm not  familiar with computer terminology. i didn't want to activate windows, i run the command"slmgr/ato" because of Microsoft technical team asked me to do the same. Reality is that i just purchased a brand new Dell laptop, which came without reinstalled windows, but dealer said to me he is providing me windows 8.1pro as compliment( when i asked him to which win. i should use updated win10 or win 8.1 original) . and windows cost is not mentioned in bill. i was not aware at the time of purchase that i'm not going to have  a preinstalled windows system, because i asked him the price of laptop with desired configuration and with win8.1. i never assumed that i am purchasing a DOS system. i did pay to dealer  almost same price for laptop with "win 8.1pro" in compare to preinstalled win8.1 sing.language laptop. After 2 days, when i realized the issue and asked Microsoft technical team to know whether windows which is installed on my system is genuine or not, and they replied that windows is genuine after checking out with my key.  From here, my doubt starts  Can a windows be genuine even if user hasn't proof that he has purchased ? Does the  only information is product  key which certifies windows genuinity ? what is the risk if dealer gives same key to another customer as "compliment".

once i shared the issue with Microsoft technical support they tried to hear me, but i think they didn't get my concern correctly. However, they asked me to run that command and message showed that windows is  already activated. Since, i was thinking that it might be someone else can also be using the same key, i tried to check that command 4 days after. since then that error is showing. Now, i want to to resolve each and every error pertaining to windows, i'll also be highly obliged to you if you could provide me the  unique way for  how to check windows genuinity.

    Regards-

    Anupam
