    Hi MuhammadAjmal,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

As per the issue description Windows Defender stopped working and while troubleshooting you get Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion while starting the Defender service. This could be if you are not logged in as Administrator or some other security software is installed. This could also be if Windows Defender need an update.

Is your computer connected to any domain network?

I would suggest you to try the steps provided in the article mentioned below and see if it helps you to fix the issue.

FIX: You receive an "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion" error message when you stop or pause a managed Windows service

If issue persists, let us try these methods and see if it helps:

    Method 1.

Press Windows key + R, type appwiz.cpl and click ok to open Programs and features window.

Uninstall any other security software apart from Windows Defender. Once this is done, restart the computer and then try to update Windows Defender to check if this helps.

    Method 2.

You may try to manually update Windows Defender and check if this helps.

Updating your Microsoft antimalware and antispyware software: http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/definitions/adl.aspx

    Method 3.

Let us stop and start these services and check if this helps.

    Step1.

    Stop these services:

Press Windows key + R to open the run window.

Type “services.msc” and hit enter to open the services window.

We need to stop these three services. Once this is done restart the computer.

    • Right click on “Background Intelligent Transfer Service” service and select stop.
    • Right click on “Cryptographic” service and select stop.
    • Right click on “Windows Update” service and select stop.

    Step2.

Press Windows key + R to open the run window.

Type “services.msc” and hit enter to open the services window.

We need to start these three services.

    • Right click on “Background Intelligent Transfer Service” service and select start.
    • Right click on “Cryptographic” service and select start.

    ·         Right click on “Windows Update” service and select start.

Once this is done, restart the computer and check the updated status.

Hope this would help. If issue still persists post back with current status of your computer and result of proposed suggestion, we will be happy to assist you.
