This is rather pathetic on a Microsoft site. A tad late for the 2009 question, but for anyone who comes here via a search:

    from http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows\_7-pictures/how-to-play-subtitles-in-windows-media-center/749b70df-b399-48eb-bb16-f468447c747a?db=5&auth=1

ANUJJOSHI on11 July 2012 (wording edited slightly)

Download and install plugin DIRECT VOBSUB for x64 or x86.

Your media file (movie) and the subtitles file (.srt) should have the same name. For example, if the movie is UP.mp4 then the subtitle should be UP.srt.

Add your files to media center and run, it will take the subtitles itself.

Thanks I will check it out.

A bit laughable we have to go outside of Microsoft to get answers and support for their software.

This answer is so ridiculously useless. and its not the first time I've seen

it. The question, you muppets, is CAN WE USE .SRT SUBTITLE FILES ON WIN7

MEDIA CENTRE. not dvd subtitles, not tv show closed captioning.     CAN I

PLAY AN .AVI AND USE A .SRT FILE TOGETHER.

Now please, for the love of everyone who has ever asked this question and

been given the same WRONG response. ANSWER THE SODDING QUESTION.
