There are 3 or 4 different icons in the system tray that represents network connectivity. One icon means it's all working fine, another means unidentified network, another means connected but no internet, etc etc. Is there a table or something that shows the different icons and their meaning?

    Hello Rob,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

With the issue description, I understand that you want to know about the different icons for internet connectivity on Windows 8.1 machine. I would appreciate if you could help me with more information:

Do you see different icons on the notification area (system tray) on your computer screen?

I would like to inform you that there is no specific table for such icons. But there are two icons of network connection  (Wi-Fi Network) or  (Ethernet Network).

If you want to remove unnecessary icons from the system tray, you may follow below steps and check if that helps:

    1. Press “Windows key + X”, open “Control Panel”.
    2. Click on “Appearance and Personalization”, and then clicking “Taskbar and Start Menu”.
    3. Click the “Notification Area” tab, and then do one or both of the following:
    • To remove system icons, under “System icons”, clear the check boxes of the icons you want to remove.
    • To remove other icons, click “Customize”, click the icon you want to remove, click the drop-down list that appears next to the icon, click “Hide”, and then click “OK”.
    1. Click “Apply”, and then click “OK”.

Hope this information is helpful. Please write back to us if you need any further assistance, we'll be glad to assist you.
