When I use the stabilization feature for a video imported to a project and save it, then close it and re-open it the video show up in the preview black and won't play the music or voice.  If I go back into the video, which shows on the project, and click on stabilization as "none" it will then work.  any ideas as to why it won't work after saving.

I have had some work after saving.  All taken on the same camera.

    Hi Dutch Rose.

Don't know if you are still interested in this problem, but I have experienced the same thing.

My setup is as follows: Windows 10, Movie Maker Version 2012 build 16.4.3528.0331.

I have loaded a few clips taken with my smart phone in .MP4 Video File format. Movie Maker previews them just fine. I can trim and save the clips as a movie no problem.

I am able to stabilize the clips and the preview looks good. However, when I try to save the stabilized clips as a movie I get the error message as you discribe.

The stabilization feature offers three options:

    1. anti-shake
    2. antil-shake with wobble correction - low
    3. anti-shake with wobble correction high

I have found that, for me at least, I am able to bypass the error if I use option 2 (anti-shake with wobble correction - low). I have not tried Option 3.

With Option 2 I am able to save the stabilized movie without error! Hope this works for your too.

I am using Windows 8.1 not 7.  The stabilization only works on 8 as I understand.  But it doesn't work correctly.  If you use stabilization and save it, close out the program, then re-open, the video doesn't work.  You have to open stabilization and click on "none" to get the video to work.  Hope that makes sense.

The stabilization will work on the video but after you save, close and reopen it doesn't work.

OH— you are using Windows 7…

Correct, stabilization is only in Windows 8 and above.

Sorry, seems to be a stupid Microsoft rule/thing.

If you'd like, you can leave feedback for the Windows Movie Maker team for suggestions/improvements in future versions:

I tried the codec link but didn't not solve the problem. My video comes into the project just fine and will play without a problem.  The problem occurs when I us the video stabilization feature, save and close, then reopen the project and the video doesn't play.  If I change it back to "none" stabilization all is ok.

I know the stabilization is just for windows 8 so I assume 8 is the issue....

Because it wasn't mentioned, what was the source VIDEO format you are/were working with?

If you haven't tried already, try converting the video to WMV before using it in Windows Movie Maker.

WMV is Microsoft's video format, Windows Movie Maker should handle the WMV just fine. Finding a proper codec is optimal because you don't have to do any conversion before using video clips in Windows Movie Maker; saving time— but converting video before using it in Windows Movie Maker usually is a logical and stable option.

Freemake Video Converter is one of the most recommended video converters for assisting users converting their SOURCE videos to WMV. Freemake Video Converter is extremely easy to use, but there's some 'opt-out' software bundled with the installer that makes user nervous.

If you don't want to convert the video, try loading current codecs.

The installation of the K-Lite Codec pack isn't complicated.

There's nothing required for you to do after the installation of the codecs; but I would recommend a reboot before going back in to edit video.

    I hope this helps...
