Renesas USB3.0 Host Controller disappears from Device Manager

I recently installed a USB3.0 PCI-E card in my computer (Renesas USB3 uPD720200). The problem I have is that the host controller keeps disappearing from Device Manager and then I can't use the USB ports. I am using Windows 7 64bit. Typically it disappears when I shut down of an evening and then start up the next day and it's gone. If I just reboot it usually disappears but occasionally remains. If I leave the computer on and let it go to sleep, when I wake it, the host controller has gone. Below are some troubleshooting steps I have tried based on google searches and answers to this question:  http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/renesas-usb-30-driver-continuous-uninstalls-from/ac6b1137-1778-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5?auth=1&page=2

If I uninstall all USB host controllers and reboot, the host controller reappears, but only temporarily. The next time I boot up it is gone again and I must repeat the process (uninstall all host controllers and reboot).

Once or twice I have been able to get it to reappear after running the hardware troubleshooter (Control Panel -> Troubleshooting -> Hardware and Sound -> Configure a device), but this is unreliable and I'm usually better off just uninstalling all host controllers and rebooting. Regardless of whether it works, the troubleshooter always gives me the message "Hardware changes might not have been detected", and when I look at detailed information it says "Windows Update configured to never install drivers.Issue not present."

I have updated the driver. I downloaded Version 2.1.28.1 from the Intel download centre (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/19880/eng/USB3.0_allOS_2.1.28.1_PV.exe&lang=eng&Dwnldid=19880). It seemed to install fine, but Device Manager says the driver version is 2.1.28.0. Repeating the installation yields the same result.

I updated the Firmware (http://www.station-drivers.com/page/renesas.htm) and that seemed to work fine, but had no impact on my problem.

I would really appreciate any help or suggestions.

I have found a SOLUTION for Lenovo ThinkPad X220 and Lenovo ThinkPad T420

It should help for other computers.

In BIOS settings search for option "PCI Express Power Management" and change it to DISABLE

this function is described as allowing system to power off PCI Express bus when no there is no activity (no data transferred). It seems that it also power off ExpressCard port.

BIOS disable of "PCI Express Power Management" works perfectly on my ThinkPad T420 with WBTUO BC618 USB 3.0 Express Card (Renesas Chip).  Thanks so much...

I haven't tried it in another computer, however, I actually had it working on this computer previously. It stopped working after I did a fresh install of Windows 7 for unrelated reasons (it was Windows 7 64bit previously as well). So I think I should be able to get it to work.

Also I forgot to mention in my last post that I have the most recent drivers for my BIOS and chipset.

    Hi,

I would suggest you to install it on another unit to see if it continues with the same symptoms, if you have another PC available to try it on. Since the thread you posted with the troubleshooting did not help any, you probably should contact the manufacturer:

    Hope this information is helpful.
