Civilization 4 not loading on Windows 10- how to fix?

I'm no tech expert.

I have a disc of Civilization 4 which was working perfectly well on Windows 8 (although with a message saying there are "Known compatibility issues".

Since Windows 10 has arrived I can no longer play Civ 4. When I go to load I get a message telling me to "sign in as administrator".

Elsewhere I have seen to download Patch 3.19. I have done this but am unable to run it (I get a white screen when I hit "install", and a message saying setup.exe isn't working).

I have uninstalled/ reinstalled, restarted to my heart's content.

Any ideas?

And hey, Microsoft- shouldn't you tell people you're going to kill their games when you throw Windows 10 at them?

What.....    2K couldn't do anything. This is nonsense. I play all of 2 games on my computer and this one doesn't want to play on windows 10. Maybe people need to second guess this upgrade because it's not impressive so far. How hard is it to make a game work on windows 10 that had previously worked for 20 years ???????

This has not worked for me. I also have Civ 4 on a disk for which I have paid. I don't propose to go and buy the game again from the website. Your instructions above do not work for installation from the disk, so how about the thinking caps go back on for a bit longer ?

holding my breath in anticipation of the response.

    Cheers

The retail version of Civ 4 uses an unsupported DRM and as such won't work on Win 10 because of that.

HOWEVER you can contact 2K Support and request a Steam key, as the Steam version doesn't use said DRM.

I googled 2k and sent an message on a 2k support page.

Sending an email would work also, they make sure its forwarded correctly internally.
