I completed installing a fujitsu scansnap iX500 scanner from the installation CD.  It works fine on its own, but QuickBooks does not recognize it as a scanner. The devise shows on devices and printers, but when I click on scanner properties, it says I need a WIA driver to use. The installation CD shows "installation completed successfully".Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

    Hello,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

With the issue description, I understand that you have Fujitsu iX500 scanner, but it do not scan even after installing the setup from the disc.

I understand your concern and I will certainly help you in resolving this issue.

Before going forward if you could answer a few questions then it will be easy for me to provide you more effective solutions.

    1. What is the OEM build installed on the PC?
    2. Have you installed this scanner first time on the PC?
    3. What are the other recent hardware/software changes made to the machine?

As per my understanding there could be certain reasons for the scanner not working:

    1. The preferred scanning drivers(WIA drivers) might not be there on the computer.
    2. If this is the first time installation of scanner on the computer, it might a hardware compatibility issue.
    3. If any hardware/software changes are made to the machine, then again it might be the driver issue.

By following below steps your issue might get resolved.

    Method 1:

Try to install all the updates on your computer. When we get windows updates, we get updates for drivers & software also. So Installing the updates may resolve the issue.

    Method 2:

Try to Uninstall & Reinstall the Printer & Scanner drivers for Fujitsu iX500

    1. To uninstall the drivers you can follow “Step 2 of Method 2” from the reply posted by Microsoft Forum Moderator Syed N replied on July 21,2010.
    2. To Reinstall the printer/scanner drivers you can visit the manufacturer’s website & you can find the updated scanning drivers according to the operating system installed on your PC. In order to install the drivers from manufacturer’s website, please follow below steps:
      1. Go to the manufacturer’s website (Fujitsu).
      2. Enter the relevant information & try to search for drivers using following information:
        1. Name & Model number of the scanner.
        2. Search using operating system installed on the PC.
        3. Search using serial number of the scanner (if any).
      3. Download the latest drivers for scanner & printer.
      4. Once downloaded, install the drivers.
      5. Reboot the machine & check if you are able to use the scanner.

I hope by following these steps your issue will be fixed.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

The response to this request is totally wrong, no where does the Microsoft Engineer answer the question. The WIA  driver the user is asking about is the same as a Twain Driver and that scanner does not have one. The ScanSnap iX500 is not meant to interface with any other software but the ScanSnap Manager that comes with the scanner and that is why it has a lower price. If you want to interface with other software or web service you will need a scanner that comes with a Twain Driver.

    Fugitsu answers this question here:

    Hopefully this will help someone.

The reply can't be totally wrong.

The reply was marked as the "Answer" to that means it must be totally right.

Oh wait...  the reply from one Microsoft engaed Support Engineer "expert" was marked as the "Answer" by another Microsoft engaged Support Engineer "expert".

If one Microsoft engaged Support Engineer "expert" replies to a topic and the topic goes idle for 5-10 days (in this case 6 days) another Microsoft engaged Support Engineer "expert" will come along and mark that reply as the "Answer" even if it impossible to be the answer.

The reply marked as the "Answer" doesn't have to work, it doesn't have to be right, it doesn't have to be tested, it doesn't have to make sense, it doesn't even have to be close...  It is the "Answer".

This answer marking nepotism among Microsoft engaged "experts" has run rampant through the MS Answers community for years (they deny it exists) so what we end up with is a community that is polluted with thousands and thousands and thousands of "Answers" that are not answers at all.

This is the way the forum owners choose to run things here.
