Metadata Staging Errors

Hello,

I repeatedly notice errors in Event Viewer, every time I boot up(W10 Home 64bit).

I receive 7 "Metadata Staging" errors which all start with the following:- Metadata Staging Failed, result= 0x80070490 for container

Each of the 7 errors begin with the above, followed by:-

1)    {21070371-CC1B-11E5-9BE3-2C600CD59D4F}

2)     {9C41A79B-CA9B-11E5-9819-B88687CE47A7}

3)     {D316C339-CA99-11E5-9818-806E6F6E6963}

4)     {00000000-0000-0000-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFF}

5)     {9C41A79C-CA9B-11E5-9819-B88687CE47A7}

6)     {21070372-CC1B-11E5-9BE3-2C600CD59D4F}

7)     {2107036B-CC1B-11E5-9BE3-2C600CD59D4F}

Fortunately, my pc seems to be working normally with all apps / programmes working normally. Are these errors universal on Windows 10 or do these errors only affect a few computers?

Many thanks to anyone who can enlighten me.

Kind Regards,

Rodney Coleman

Update on 2nd February 2016 (Content Added):

Hello,

Yesterday, I posted regarding 7 Metadata Staging Errors. I received a reply and I tried following the steps in an effort to resolve the situation. A clean boot was suggested by disabling Microsoft  services etc. This I tried but it would not work. In trying to disable services as suggested, I got no response and got the message "not responding". The only way I could get my laptop to work after this was to hold down the power button to shut down. The laptop did eventually shut down after about 15 minutes. I then rebooted and all was fine.

All the "Metadata Staging" errors occur on two new acer laptops purchased last month. I have not modified any settings on either. These errors are identical on both. These errors usually occur soon after boot up. Both on Windows 10 Home 64 bit.

Windows Update is working normally and all updates are installing correctly. In spite of the above errors, both latops are performing brilliantly. I have not suffered any loss of functionality whatsoever.

I do believe in the phrase:- "If it ain't broken, don't fix it". I am currently resigned to leaving things as they are, unless anyone has any further suggestions.

Any suggestions??

    Hi Rodney,

    Thank you for your response.

    I would like to inform that there can be many events which might have resulted in the system files errors. An incomplete installation, an incomplete uninstall, improper deletion of applications or hardware. It can also be caused if your computer is recovered from a virus or adware/spyware attack or by an improper shutdown of the computer. All the above actives may result in the deletion or corruption of the entries in the windows system files. This corrupted system file will lead to the missing and wrongly linked information and files needed for the proper working of the application.

    I suggest you to perform a Reset on your computerand check if it helps.

    Note: While performing reset on your PC, I suggest you to choose "Keep my files" as this will not affect the data on your computer.

    Follow the below:

    • Press Windows + R keys from the keyboard, type Control and press Enter.
    • Click on Recovery, click on If you're having problems with your PC, go to Settings and try resetting it.
    • Click on Get started under Reset this PC, click on Keep my files and follow onscreen instructions.

    Refer: **Recovery options in Windows 10**

    As the installed applications and updates will be removed, you will have to re-install all those after performing the reset on your computer.

    Hope it helps. Kindly update the status of the issue and required information, we will be happy to help you further.

    Hi Rodney,

    Thank you for your response.

    Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

    1. Have you installed all the pending updates?
    2. Did you check if Windows Firewall services status is Running and Automatic on the PC?

    Windows Firewall is a program included with Windows operating system that monitors all of the data coming into and going out of your computer. You may be facing the above issue due to the corrupted Windows Firewall service or Windows Firewall blocking the update feature on the PC.

    Check if Windows Firewall service is set to automaticand running on the PC by following the steps below.

    • Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type Services and select the top most search result.
    • Locate Windows Firewall service from the window and check if Status shows Running and Startup type is set to Automatic.
    • If not, double click on the service and change the Status and Startup type to Running and Automatic.
    • Close the window and check if the changes are effective.

    Note: Install all the pending updates in Windows logging into admin account.

    Keep us posted to help you better.

    Hello Sachin,

    Thank you for your reply.

    Method (1):-  SFC Scan    Scan result:-Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

    Method (2):- Run the DISM tool:- I tried to run this tool, Command Prompt(Admin) would not recognise it.

    After running the sfc scan(result above), I re-started my computer.

    As previously advised, I was receiving many Metadata Staging errors. Fortunately, I am now only experiencing one such error after boot-up. This error reads as follows:

    Metadata staging failed, result=0x800706D9 for container '{3E-690E8A-D134-5A56-AEE3-ECB45CFE19FC}'

    GUID   {FCBB06BB-6A2A-46E3-ABAA-246CB4E508B2}

    Hope this helps, and many thanks once again for your help,

    Kind regards,

    Rodney Coleman

    Hello Sachin,

    Thanks for your reply. With reference to the Firewall issue, I use the Norton Firewall, with Windows Firewall switched off. I have also tried by using the Windows Firewall with the Norton Firewall switched off.

    I am experiencing other system errors which I am currently working on. Some of these are somehow connected with Device Manager Setup.

    I give you the details of the only "Metadata Staging Failed" error currently experienced:-

    result=0x800706D9 for container '{A1948AC6-162A-542F-BECF-C399296BC1B5}'

    -System

    -Provider

    (Name) Microsoft-Windows-DeviceSetUpManager

    {GUID}  {FCBB06BB-6A2A-46E3-ABAA-246CB4E508B2}

    Event ID   131

    Version     0

    Level        2

    Task          0

    Opcode   0

    Keywords    0x4000000000000000

    Event Record ID 520

    Thread ID 6996

    Channel: Microsoft-Windows-DeviceSetUpManager/Admin

    Security User ID  S-1-5-18

    Event Data  '{A1948AC6-162A-542F-BECFC399296BC1B5}'

    Prop_Container Id:

    HRESULT   2147943568

    Windows Update is up to date. I am unable to locate optional updates. I do have a problem with Microsoft Updates not installing. However, I can get around this by running Secunia PSI or Advanced System Care(Free) and installing the updates by either of these methods.

    My two computers are running well, with no loss of any functionality

    The GUID given above seems to be common to most Metadata Staging errors.

    Hope this helps

    Kind Regards,

    Rodney Coleman
