Is it the same computer - not the same problem - as in this other recent thread of yours? => http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/windows-update-failure-kb3140743-and-kb3139907/8f643fa1-575c-4d5b-963a-b7acf0411041
Metadata Staging Errors
Hello,
I repeatedly notice errors in Event Viewer, every time I boot up(W10 Home 64bit).
I receive 7 "Metadata Staging" errors which all start with the following:- Metadata Staging Failed, result= 0x80070490 for container
Each of the 7 errors begin with the above, followed by:-
1) {21070371-CC1B-11E5-9BE3-2C600CD59D4F}
2) {9C41A79B-CA9B-11E5-9819-B88687CE47A7}
3) {D316C339-CA99-11E5-9818-806E6F6E6963}
4) {00000000-0000-0000-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFF}
5) {9C41A79C-CA9B-11E5-9819-B88687CE47A7}
6) {21070372-CC1B-11E5-9BE3-2C600CD59D4F}
7) {2107036B-CC1B-11E5-9BE3-2C600CD59D4F}
Fortunately, my pc seems to be working normally with all apps / programmes working normally. Are these errors universal on Windows 10 or do these errors only affect a few computers?
Many thanks to anyone who can enlighten me.
Kind Regards,
Rodney Coleman
Update on 2nd February 2016 (Content Added):
Hello,
Yesterday, I posted regarding 7 Metadata Staging Errors. I received a reply and I tried following the steps in an effort to resolve the situation. A clean boot was suggested by disabling Microsoft services etc. This I tried but it would not work. In trying to disable services as suggested, I got no response and got the message "not responding". The only way I could get my laptop to work after this was to hold down the power button to shut down. The laptop did eventually shut down after about 15 minutes. I then rebooted and all was fine.
All the "Metadata Staging" errors occur on two new acer laptops purchased last month. I have not modified any settings on either. These errors are identical on both. These errors usually occur soon after boot up. Both on Windows 10 Home 64 bit.
Windows Update is working normally and all updates are installing correctly. In spite of the above errors, both latops are performing brilliantly. I have not suffered any loss of functionality whatsoever.
I do believe in the phrase:- "If it ain't broken, don't fix it". I am currently resigned to leaving things as they are, unless anyone has any further suggestions.
Any suggestions??

2016-02-13T14:33:46+00:00 Hi Rodney,
Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.
I will certainly help you with the error message you are getting in event viewer.
Please provide more information to help you better:
- Have you recently made any changes on your computer, prior to the issue?
- Are you getting any error message or code while using Windows and running any application?
- Are you facing this issue with a local account or the Microsoft account?
- Is there any Windows Update/driver which has been failed recently?
Note: To know the KB numbers of the failing updates, follow the underlying steps:
1. In the search box, type Windows Update.
2. Go to Advanced option.
3. Click on View your Update history.
I
suggest you to sign out from the current user account, restart the computer and login to the Admin account to check the status.
If issue still persists, I suggest you to perform the methods below and check if it helps:
Method 1:
Boot the computer in a clean boot state and check the status. A clean boot helps to verify if any third party application service or startup item is causing this issue.
Please refer the link below for clean booting steps:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135********
Disclaimer: Once you are done with the troubleshooting, perform the steps in "How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot "to reset computer as usual. **** ****
If issue persists, perform Windows Update.
Please follow the steps to install available Windows Updates.
- In the search box, type Windows Update.
2. Click Check for Updates. After the scan is complete, click Review optional updates.
3. Click the check box next to the updates, then click Install updates.
4. If prompted, review the license agreement, then click I Accept.
5. Follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the updates. If prompted, reboot your computer.
Method 2:
If issue persists even after installing all the pending Windows Update, I suggest you to perform SFC scan and check if that helps. The sfc/scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.
You may also install any pending updates on the pc to check if that helps. Updates are additions to software that can help prevent or fix problems, improve how your computer works, or enhance your computing experience.
Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance with Windows, we’ll be glad to assist you.

2016-02-14T14:59:00+00:00 Hi Rodney,
Thank you for your response.
I hope there are no issues with the functionality of the system. Lets check if there are any errors found for the functionality of the system checking the system files.
Let's try the below methods and check if it helps to resolve the issue**.**
Previously the SFC scan was suggested and I hope you couldn't try as the system didn't respond properly when you tried the clean boot.
Method 1: I suggest you to perform a SFC scan (System file checker) scan.
How to use the System File Checker tool: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
Method 2: Run the DISM tool and check.
- Press Windows + X keys and select the Command prompt (admin)
- In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, enter the following commands. Press the Enter key after each command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type Exit, and then press Enter.
- Restart the system and check if the issue resolves.
Keep us posted to help you better.

2016-03-01T13:38:08+00:00 Hello Sachin,
Sorry for not having replied sooner. Unfortunately, the issue is still unresolved. Both my laptops are running normally. I have spent countless hours trying to find a solution, without avail. The Metadata errors as previously confirmed, still appear. Currently, I cannot spend any more time on this issue, and putting this issue on hold for the time being. Perhaps the next Windows Update may have some effect on the issue, which I believe to be a global problem, and not exclusively my problem. I have opened Event Logs and disabled DSM logs. I will notify you prior to re-opening my investigations.
Sincere Regards,
Rodney

2016-02-22T14:48:53+00:00 Hi Sachin,
Thanks for all your efforts. Prior to my receiving your reply, I did perform a recovery to factory settings. However, this was unsuccessful and the MetaData Staging errors still occurred.
Frankly, I am puzzled. What is worthy of note is this:- I have not suffered any loss of functionality as a result of these errors. All my applications are working normally. Windows Updates is working normally.
After completing system recovery, I checked in Event Viewer and discovered that the errors were still there. After reinstalling all my additional software, I checked again and the errors were still there. Therefore, these errors could not have been caused by additional software which I had installed.
I use Norton 360 Premium. I have made sure that I only had one firewall running. I carried out my investigations by running the Windows Firewall with the Norton firewall switched off. No change.
I have even tried by setting some Services to Delayed Startup, setting others to Manual, and disabling those services which are not needed. I have checked Event Viewer logs just prior to the errors showing up. This has drawn a blank.
Over the next few days, I will make a note of all the Metadata Staging errors that occur, and check if any new ones appear.
If you wanted details of the specifications of both of my laptops, to assist you in your investigations, please let me know.
Many thanks once again,
