Microsoft Works 9.0 install

I have years of Works Database income and expense files dating back to 2005. Now I get this new laptop and I find out I cant use my Microsoft Works version 9.0 to access old files or continue with new ones. I have the Microsoft Works 9.0 CD disk that I bought about 5 years ago when I had to upgrade to Win 7. This new laptop doesn't have a CD drive. I have Win 7 install disk. If I uninstall 10 and install 7 will Microsft Works be useable? How will I install it without a CD drive? Alan

There have been mixed reports here about Works 9.0 compatibility with Windows 10; some have been able to get it to install and run and others have had issues.  In order to attempt the installation you'll need an external USB optical drive. My advice to you is to migrate your files to a less volatile format.  Sooner or later, and probably sooner, your Works files will be inaccessible.  There is a converter available that can read and save works files in Microsoft Office, but I don't know about its general compatibility with Windows and Office versions.

Yes my Microsoft works worked just fine on windows 10.  I had Works 4 on my windows XP and when I purchased a new computer 10 years ago it had Vista, then 5 years ago my computer geek upgraded to windows 7 he upgraded to works 9 which worked fine then a year ago I upgraded to windows 10 and works continued working fine!  Now my computer crashed  and the new one does not have works.  I need desperately as I have many years of documents in works, also I'm used to works and don't really want to change anything.  SO PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME WHERE TO GET WORKS IT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED!

    Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are facing the issue on Microsoft work.

I will certainly help you with this.

As per the description you mentioned that you don’t have the disk drive, so you can use any USB drive using different computer, try to copy all files to the USB and try to install the program in the new computer.

I would suggest you if the program is not installing on new computer, try to install the program in compatibility mode and check if it helps:

    a. Right click on the setup file.

    b. Click on properties.

    c. Click on compatibility tab.

    d. Check the box, run the program in compatibility mode.

    e. Select the previous operating system and click on apply and then ok.

I hope this helps. Please let us know the results. Feel free to write us back for any further assistance with Windows, we’ll be glad to assist you.

Have found that this has worked very well for me.  I also like using Works 9 and have 27 years worth of

Invoices, docs etc...  which I painstakingly over the years

have put hand written invoices, statements etc into Works 9 documents.  There were many years worth of Invoices, Proposals etc that were hand written before we came out of the dark ages into the tech age.  With each new Windows OS I have been able to keep using the basic  docs and creating new ones each day with no problems.  I recently upgraded to Windows 10 Pro and have made sure to use the Compatibility Troubleshooter and make sure that the compatibilty mode is set to Vista SP2.  In other words this is still the case with Windows 10 Pro and it works fast and correctly each and every day.
