Yes, the msconfig Boot listing is only a Boot Menu listing, not the OS itself which will still be on the hard drive taking up space.  It might even hold the Boot files still for both files if it was installed first and the second installed OS only updated those boot files to create the Dual Boot menu.

To sort this out please Post a Screenshot ofDisk Management so we can give you the steps to properly remove the old OS and avoid building up a disk junkyard.

I have a question regarding this - I did this for my PC which had Windows 7 and Windows Vista. I deleted Windows Vista, but did this only remove it as a boot option or did it completely remove it? I am trying to get it completely off my computer.

    Thank you!

    Hi Johnnie,

Thanks for posting this question in Microsoft Community.

As I understand you would like to remove one operating system from the dual boot configuration.

    1. Do you have a single hard drive installed on the computer?
    2. You may follow the steps and check if it helps.

Boot the computer to Windows XP Operating System and follow the steps mentioned below.

    a) Go to Start.

    b) Click on Run.

    c) ype MSCONFIG in run window and hit Enter.

    d) Click on Boot Tab.

    e) Highlight “Microsoft Windows XP” and press Delete button underneath the list of available Operating System's.

Hope this helps and let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to help.
