Windows 7 Support & Intel Skylake CPU

I'm looking to build a new rig and want to continue using my existing Windows 7 license until EOL occurs in 2020 (or until 10 is drastically improved or something else comes out).

Looking at Z170 or x99 platforms...leaning towards Z170 to allow future proofing.

During my research I discovered Intel's new 6th gen Skylake CPUs will only receive Win7 updates/support until 2017.  I also heard the Skylakes will be targeted and forced to upgrade to Win10 through Windows Update.  Are either of these true?

What are other "newer" Intel CPUs (4th/5th gen i3/i5/i7, Haswell, etc) that are currently planned for continued Win7 support until 2020?

In addition to my questions, please provide any additional info you can share regarding this.  Thanks for your help!!!

Actually support in regards to win-7 ends in 2020 and I imagine depending on many users it will be extended just as x-p was,

Intel on the other hand is 18 months there is a difference :)

Besides that is only in regards to new drivers your cpu or mother board will not stop working :D

Support on the other hand depends what type of problems you might face = probably none is my guess it's just a scare tactic to upgrade.

M$ is desperate to make everyone buy into this silly upgrading and eating as many win-7 licenses as they can

There's no real reason 7 and 10 can't coexist except M$ doesn't want 7 on the market anymore.

Funny what support actually is :)

Win-7 can be installed on skylake all you need is a installation disk

It is finicky with usb installs you might need a SP/2 mouse and keyboard ports on some  z170 brands

Sabertooth z170 has no issues at all installing win-7 on a disk.

I have a x99 sabertooth and it's more awesome than z170 and skylake ever will be :p

5960x processors are not cheap but 5820k processors are pretty darn good too and about the same cost and 6 cores baby a lot better for vm's anyway :)

A quad core cpu is anticlimactic build.

I also run win-10 on x99 and a 5930k and besides win-10's bugs works good

Win-7 rules and with every attempt in marginalize win-7 same as x-p support will no doubt be extended same as x-p's was.

I have a software program that won't run on Windows 8, 8.1, or 10. It is Bernina Artista version6. Cost is +/-$2,000. Upgrade cost to a version that will run on Windows 10 is +/- $800. I just bought a new Dell XPS8900 with the I7-6700 CPU hoping to last a few more years. I just received the unit 2 weeks ago and now I find out that in less that 18 months, no more support from Microsoft. What a screwing!! Now what do I do?  This is my main computer and I only got a new one because my old one was having some issues.

    I AM NOT HAPPY!!

Is there no one to contact about this or is Microsoft so big they don't care?

Not sure if you have seen this - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/skylake-support but it seems to confirm what you said.

"Support will be provided until July 17, 2017 and its recommended that these systems be upgraded to Windows 10 as soon as possible. After July 2017, the most critical Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 security updates will be addressed for these configurations, and will be released if the update does not risk the reliability or compatibility of the Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 platform on other devices. "

    More here - http://www.zdnet.com/article/heres-microsofts-list-of-skylake-devices-that-will-be-supported-when-running-windows-7/

'Ed Bott' - http://www.zdnet.com/article/microsoft-updates-support-policy-new-cpus-will-require-windows-10/  - says "Of course, enterprise customers who want to stick with earlier Windows versions beyond that mid-2017 deadline have lots and lots of options, based on current generations of Intel processors such as the Broadwell and Haswell lines. Those systems, which are based on what Microsoft calls "downlevel silicon," will continue to be fully supported for pre-Windows 10 operating systems"

( Just found by a search ) Hopefully someone with more knowledge about this will 'chip in' soon.
