Hi, I have searched the web for hours, trying to find a answer to (what I think) is a simple question, I have a HP computer windows 8.1, I use internet explorer, I have a built in camera, that is awful, it's all foggy/ and I asked a question on here and done everything instructed to do, but it did not work, there are no settings for my built in camera like light/sharpness/clear, etc . when I Skype, my frieds cannot even see me, so I purchased a compact camera to clip on my computer I know anything is better than my built in(which is a shame, my laptop is only is only 4 yrs old. so here was question I've been asking

can I use this compact/clip on web cam, even though I have a built in camera? if so, do I have to disable my built in cam, before I can use it?

Thank You, as always all the great help I get on here is always appreciated

the person that was helping me, never answered that question, and I never head back from him. I know he mentioned going into my device device manager(which I did) and right click on device manager(which I did) Then I got stuck, he said "EXPAND IMAGING DEVICE" there was nothing that said those words, then I thought, hm maybe i'm suppose to expand it, well, I don't know how to expand it(if that's what he meant) an, I don't know what it means, I guess the easiest way for me to do this would be to know 1st of all, if I need to disable my built in webcam b-4 I plug in the compact one I purchased,my built in camera sucks, it is awful can't hardly see, it is all foggy, and I have no idea where the settings are, if there are settings, could someone please help me, I would really appreciate it,

    Hi,

Thank you for writing us back.

Whenever you perform clean boot it never going to remove any data files or system files. A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista. You may also troubleshoot or determine what conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot. Clean boot is a diagnostic process to check if any third party services or startup is conflicting with Windows services.

Please do let us know if you need further assistance with Windows, we’ll be glad to assist you.

Hi Shubham, I appreciate your helping me, ok everything went smooth until, I got to method 2, when I went to device manager, and tried to find "expand imaging device" I couldn't anything that said that, it just said "imaging device" no expand, then I thought,  maybe I'm suppose to expand it, if so, I don't know how to expand it,

How do I expand imaging device, or find the word imaging device(if there is one)?

I clicked on just "imaging device" right clicked as you said, and clicked on properties, what method 2 said wasn't there, a box came on screen that said at the top

Imaging Device Properties,  under that there was only 1, category it said, General,

Under General, in that box, the only thing listed was 1 thing it said general imaging device, that's was all, there was nothing that said Driver tabs, or no driver tabs, just nothing, only what I told you, I guess I am stuck here until I hear from you again, and again, I really appreciate your help, big time, i'll wait for your reply, I was also wondering would the compact cam I purchased, would it work if I pluged it in the ubs outlet even though I have a built in camera, just wondering, I still really need to fix my cam,

Also in the 1st method, when I scanned it(it didn't say scan, it said next, I clicked on that and assume it was scanning) when it was done I click on something that said view detailed information, said

Potential issues that were checked an then said, windows update configure, to never install drivers under that said, issue not present. that might not hve nothing to do with it, but I just thought I would let you know in case it was important

    Thank you Shubham

    Hi,

Thank you for writing us back.

    I’m sorry for the inconvenience.

As per the description, you are unable to check for the driver in imaging device, in this case you may need to contact the manufacturer of the computer as this is the issue with the driver which is actually taken care by the device manufacturer, but before that I would suggest you to go through the below methods:

Method 1: Try to perform clean boot:

A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista. You may also troubleshoot or determine what conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Refer "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting" to reset the computer to start as normal after troubleshooting.

Method 2: Try to update the graphics card and check if it helps.

    a) Press Windows+X key and click on Device Manager.

    b) Expand ‘Display Adapter’.

    c) Locate the display driver.

    d) Right-click on the display card listed and click on ‘Update Driver Software’

Method 3: Try to check if the screen resolution is maximum.

Follow these steps to do so.

    a. Right click on Desktop and select Screen Resolution.

    b. Check if screen resolution is maximum.

I hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance with Windows, we’ll be glad to assist you.
