Turn appearance into gray scale

Hi,

I want to change my desktop (including icons and all the applications) into gray scale, the appearance that comes up when you go to shutdown Windows. Basically I want to remove all the colors and leave only gray scale.  Is this possible in Windows VISTA and if not are there any tools which I can use to achieve this.  I have seen so many others who have posted this same question on the web but no proper answer.  I am hoping someone here can given me an answer.

Thanks

Arjuna.

As Carlii had mentioned, you can use vendor's program to achieve grayscale like appearance. For instance, I have Intel Graphics Video and their Control Panel program installed. From this app, you can reduce the Saturation to 0 and your monitor will turn into grayscale.

    Hope this helps,

    Jeff

    Hello Arjuna_M, welcome.

The best method to achieving a pure grayscale interface would be to control it on the monitor itself. Most LCD screens give you the ability to turn down what is known as 'Color Saturation'. In doing this, it gives a complete grayscale affect.

LCD menu controls are not all alike so if you are unable to figure out how to access your monitor settings, you may need to refer to your manufacturer's website for instructions.

In the event that you do not have an LCD screen, you may be able to try the following:

    1. Click START
    2. Click 'Control Panel'
    3. Doube click 'Personilization'
    4. Click 'Window Color & Appearance'

From there you could switch it to a number of high-contrast themes and click 'Apply' to take affect.

Let us know if this helps,

    Thanks!

It's funny that you want grayscale, and a number of us had grayscale imposed upon our Windows Vista system and wanted it to go away. If you have the Nvidia Control Panel on your system, you can reverse the procedure described in the "Vista turned to grayscale" topic. So, you can change the "digital vibrance" settings from 50% to 0% to get grayscale. If you have another vendor's control panel, there could be a similar setting that will allow you to achieve the same result.

    Hi,

I do use an LCD monitor (HP L1906) however this does not have a Color Saturation option.  What I do have is to reduce the color and when I reduce everything the whole thing turns black.

Using high contract theme still does not make windows grayscale.  It just flips the colors.  What I actually need is a gray scale appearance.

    Thanks

    Arjuna.
