How do I speed up a portion of a video clip?

I can't find any way to select just a portion of a video to then change the speed. I have a video with a bunch of waiting in the middle so I want to speed just that portion up so it goes faster.  Timeline view seems to be missing so I can't find a wya to select a chunk of video and just apply the speed change to that.

Can that be done?

To apply any effect to just a *portion* of a video clip, you must split out that portion. Set the playback marker at the beginning of the part you want to affect and split the clip (Video Tools | Edit > Split). The keyboard shortcut for this is M which is much faster. Then set the playback marker to the endpoint and make another split.

Once you have split the clip into 3 parts, select the part in the middle and apply the Speed Up to just that.

This same splitting method works for any effect that you want to apply to just a part of a clip.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it helps:

Method 1: The duration change must be made 'before' the photos are added to the timeline. Follow the steps below to do the same:

    1. If you switch to 'Storyboard' view and select all the clips as a batch (select one and type Ctrl+A), you can add the "Speed Up, Double” or "Slow Down, Half" effect to change the duration.
    2. Just select all the clips / right click the Effect and from the menu choose Add to Storyboard.
    3. "Speed Up, Double" cuts the duration in half.
    4. "Slow Down, Half" doubles the duration.
    5. These effects can be added up to six times.

**Method 2:**You may change the duration for each clip manually.  Move your pointer around on the edge of a clip until you see a double red arrow. Now drag the double red arrow you'll see a tooltip that shows the duration changing. Or just redo the project 'after' you change the duration at: Tools / Options / Advanced tab.

Check the format of your video clip. Perhaps it isn't 100% compatible with Movie Maker. Any details on the clip types you are using? Are they from a camcorder? If so, what model?

When I follow those instructions, it cuts off (deletes) that last part of the video.

Thanks.  I stumbled upon that method as I was clicking around and that did seem to work.  I didn't know if there was any other way to do it but it seems not.  Thanks for the info.
