ASUS Vivotab Note 8 touch screen failure

I am using an ASUS Vivotab Note 8 (M80TA), running Windows 8.1. I have had it for almost a year, with no problems until around Christmastime. Now, after waking from Sleep mode, my touchscreen doesn't work! (Pen continues to work just fine.) Device Manager says that the I2C HID device failed (error 10). Disabling and re-enabling the driver gets the touchscreen working again, but the next time the tablet goes to sleep, it happens all over again. (I have tried unchecking the "Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power" option, but it didn't work.) I tried uninstalling Windows updates, which seemed to work for a little while but the problem eventually reappeared. I have tried refreshing and restoring my tablet, but nothing has worked. I really don't want to have to send the tablet in for repair if it's not a hardware issue, but it's looking like all the suggested software fixes aren't working. Help me, Microsoft Community, you're my only hope!!! :(

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I am sorry to hear that touch screen is not working properly after waking from Sleep mode.

Try basic Troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.

  1. Open search window and type Run.
  2. In the Run prompt type services.msc and press Enter.
  3. Search for the service called Plug and Play.
  4. Right click on the Plug and Play service and click Properties and change the startup type to Automatic.
  5. Click on Apply and Ok to save changes.

Also refer to the Asus website and then try downloading the latest Touchscreen drivers from the website and try installing it and check if it helps.

Hope this helps. Please get back to us if you need any further assistance.

    1. Turn off your tablet completely by pressing the power button  for 10 seconds.
    2. Connect you charger then power on your tablet.
    3. Go to device manager and uninstall the failed I2C HID.
    4. Right click the computer name in the device manager and click "Scan for hardware changes".
    5. The I2C HID will appear again but now working properly, right click it and go to  "power Management" tap then uncheck the box of "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power".

     6. Restart your tablet.

Hope that help you as it works with me.

Yep. I have also been struggling with this, and was not finding solutions anymore. The above works (forum tablet pc). It seems it is not even necessary to change the cable. Just fiddle/unfold.

    Then close back your tablet.

Go under properties, manager, and scan for new device.

    Touch will be working again

I have worked this issue for over a year off and on and felt a bit like the guy in Awakenings.  The solutions worked for awhile and then stopped helping.

Here's the real answer to why this is happening and how to fix:

    http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/threads/diy-fix-for-the-asus-vivotab-note-8-pen-touch-failure.63696/

It cost me about $5 dollars for the cable and about 30 minutes of time to work.  Done. Problem solved permanently (I hope :-)).

Love this tablet too much to throw it away.

    Hi Pedro,

    Thanks for your reply.

In this scenario, I suggest you to contact the device manufacturer support for updated drivers as the device manufacturer is the one who creates/designs the driver software according their requirements.

Before contacting the device manufacturer support, you may try installing the driver software in compatibility mode and check if it helps. As this is a Preview version of Windows Operating System, this is a work around that can be used if there are no compatible driver software available in the market.

I suggest you to Uninstall and reinstall the Touchscreen driver in Compatibility mode and check if it works for you**.**Refer to the steps below:

Follow the steps to uninstall the Touchscreen driver:

    1. Press Windows Key + X key and click Device Manager.
    2. Locate the Touchscreen driver and right-click on it and click on ‘Uninstall’.
    3. Select the option to Delete driver software.
    4. Restart the computer after its uninstalled.

Now download the drivers the manufacturer website and install it in Windows 8.1 compatibility mode. Follow the steps provided below to install the drivers in compatibility mode:

    1. Right-click on the driver and click on ‘properties’.
    2. Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select Windows 8.1 operating system from the drop down.
    3. Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it.

Hope this will fix the issue, if not let us know with the updated status and we will be happy to assist you further.
