Collected a new phone today. Have previously managed to sync work computer and work phone ( Lumia 635) with no problem.

After 3 hours and following all the advice I can find I still cannot sync emails from Outlook ( running gmail through it) to phone. One email from outlook team sending a greeting but nothing else.

Getting frustrated!

What you want to do is easy.

On the phone go to settings,  accounts, your email and accounts.  The square with the big +, add an account, Google will be one of the selections. There is where you add your Google account.

Adding this account will bring your gmail email, contacts and calendar to the phone. You can select if you want to sync these individually or not sync at all.

By the way, the domain is the  -  email name @  domain  . com

So the domain of your Google account is  -  gmail

Need to make sure of this, Important.  Answer this one.

Do you have an account from Microsoft on the phone??  This should be a live, Hotmail or outlook.com account? For everything to work together this is needed.

What account is displayed at the top of the email and accounts page???

    Thanks for replying.

I thought this could be the state of the accounts on the phone and I wanted to make sure.

It is important for many, many reasons to have the primary account on the phone an account from Microsoft.

This is the thing we need to fix.

I am guessing you do not have a Microsoft account you use.  You have to have the email account name and password to use it.

    See the reasons here

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-com/

I suggest you get the account.  and complete all the info. For security use your gmail account and the phone number for your phone. Record the account name and password for safekeeping..

You can not change the primary account on the phone without resetting it. Reset the phone at settings, system, about, reset your phone.

When the phone restarts enter you new account when it asks.

You can not backup your phone settings and any apps you may have installed. You can only backup the phone when your primary account is a Microsoft account. Write down the names of any apps you installed. Any documents, pictures, music will not be saved. This is one of the outcomes of not having the Microsoft account.

    Any questions, waiting for rely

If you do this will be at the top of the 'email and accounts' page with your name at the top and an email address under the name.  The gmail account should be listed further down the page.

If not where is it listed on the page.

Have asked this three times with no good answer

sorry if I am not answering as you expect this is all gobbledigook to me but I thought I had explained that there was a live mail email address on phone which I took note of when you said it was important. This is the one I think I changed.

Then when the syncing started to happen,  a different @Hotmail address came up,  which phone said it could not syc with. But the syncing seemed to complete anyway

The address at the top of the email and accounts page is the one I changed to my own gmail address and now I cannot find it listed anywhere.

I hope this finally answers your question.

yes I think I must have changed the Microsoft email address to my own so this may be where the problem lay

However  now it seem I have emails through gmail account which I have cross checked with computer.

I will see if I can sort out contacts and calendar - but don't use the calendar.

If it all goes wrong I will shout for help

    THANK YOU for your help
