"why can't i install nor play simcity 3000 unlimited? "

Details of what is, or is not happening, and your system specifications, including brand and model

graphics processor, should be included as a matter of course in any question regarding games, but...

    • Most (many ?)  but not all, pre-2000 release games tend to have at least one of a host of issues not found

in post 2000 games, but many of these problems have fixes which can be found on the games fan sites.

    • The vast majority of games released from 2000 on are compatible with Win10.  If a game runs on

Win7 it will most likely run on Win10 as well.

    • There is one big issue with disk based games on Win10, but this should not normally stop a game from installing .

This is Win10's DRM Blocking 'feature' .  I don't have the details on this particular version of SimCity,

but if the disk has a file with the title  -  secdrv.sys  - on it Windows will prevent if from launching.

You can read more about DRM Blocking in my post on  ---this thread---

btw - Good Old Games is a good place for old games.

Their games install with DOS BOX, or ScummVM when one of these emulators is required for the

game to run in modern Windows. This saves the hassle of learning how to use the emulator software.

(They have 2000 and 4, but no 3000)

Because it's not compatible with Windows 10.  It was released in 1999 and had to die sooner or later.

I do not have ss 300 but  ss2000 did run on one of my win10 computers

in a dos box emulator .

This is the ea origin game and the difference betwen the cd and digital

    one I cant say.

I also have seage classic games through steam and the run the same way, never had

    an issue.

If you can not get it to run of the disk, maybe a digital game platform could work.

Not a push for ea but they have a $5 all access per month for older games, check to see

    if ss3000 is listed.

I have some older disk based games that I cant find on any digital distribution services so may try

    to install on win10.

Has the game been installed from the media.

Go to the exe for the game shortcut and set it to run on

    an older version of windows.

May have to set a few other things like run as admin.

I have a few older games on ea origin like medal of honer

airborne and it runs fine on win10 pro.

Now the hardware specs, that is a different story.

Most older steam games run on win10 also.

I have played all three bioshock games, need for

speed, the first call of dutys.

Got farcry 3 to run well on an old 2.2 quad core amd 9500 with 8 gig ddr2 ram.
