Hello, when I try to run the game Killer Instinct from Win. app store a message saysit requires direct3D 11.0 or higher and that I have v. 10.0. When I run the Dxdiag.exe tool it says I have Direct x 11.1. Is there a way to install direct 3D v. 11.0 or higher?  I have an HP g series notebook w/ win. 10 pro x64  intel- HD3000 graphics card. Thanks in advance.

Your Intel HD3000 graphics is limited to DX 10 and below. This is a hardware limitation, not Windows.

The first Intel HD to support DX11 is the HD4000 series.

Any new game that is limited to DX11/12 will not run on HD3000.

I believe the DirectX version reported in System should be that of the Windows version. DX12 in this case.

The reporting of DX versions has become even more complicated with the advent of DX12 as DX12has

several 'feature sets', some of which can be used by some older hardware.

When viewing the Display tab you should see what DX 12 feature sets  are available.

Rather than list these as DX12, DX12ab or similar, they use a downgrade term, eg-  DX11.1,  etc.

( mine runs from DX9 up to 12.1 ).

  • If DX11.1 is showing in the Display tab, I don't know how. HD3000 is definitely not capable of using it.
  • Another thing that may help (not with this game)  is to run the DirectX upgrade tool.

This will install any 'missing' DX files -

Download DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from Official Microsoft Download Center

Been having exactly the same problem and come to the same conclusion, stuff Facebook and their app. Why on earth build an app half of us can't use?

I did what I was told to do,but it did not work.I downloaded the link, and it did not help.I guess it is my computer. It must not have what I need on it,because when I installed the Facebook App again it still said I needed Direct 3D with feature 9_3 or greater. So I guess I will give up on finding what I need, because it must be a driver which is a hardware item, instead of a software item.

    "a driver which is a hardware item,instead of a software item. "

Driver is just the name for a type of software used to give 'instructions' to hardware.

"when I installed the Facebook App again it still said I needed Direct 3D with feature 9_3 or greater."

Oops - Apparently Intel is not supporting HD200/3000 (2nd generation) with drivers for  Win10

( I thought it was only the HD2000 they were not supporting).

This would likely be why you are getting D3D errors.

Not having  Win10 specific graphics drivers also means you would be better off in the long term to go back to

    your previous version of Windows.

If MS said your machine was suitable for a Win10 "upgrade" it is just another example of how desperate

they are to push as many people as possible onto Win10. Able to run Win10, but not completely suitable/compatible.
