Hi samsl13.

Thank you for posting query on Microsoft communities.

From your description I understand that you are having issue with

Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller.

Please try the following methods for resolving the issue.

Method 1: Hardware and device troubleshooter.

You can try using the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter to fix the problem. It checks for common problems and makes sure that any new device or hardware connected to your PC is installed correctly.

·         Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering hardware and devices in the search box, tapping or clicking Settings, and then tapping or clicking Find and fix problems with devices.‌ You might be asked for an admin password or to confirm your choice.

Method 2: I want you to install the driver from the below mentioned link.

http://www.intel.com/support/Win8.htm

Disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:

a) Drag the mouse to bottom left corner and right-click on the ‘Start icon’.

b) Select ‘device manager’.

c) In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".

d) Repeat the step to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".

Then, restart your computer and Windows 8 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.

Follow the link and instructions mentioned in the link.

    Hello All,

I have been trouble shooting this for about an hour. I have found that the problem is caused by the driver that Window is trying to assign to controller. To resolve this issue you must manually assign the driver. The driver is already located on your computer if you are running windows 10.

    1. Open Device Manager
    2. Right click on the device with the yellow marking. The context menu will be displayed.
    3. Click Update Driver Software....
    4. Click Browse My Computer for Driver Software
    5. Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
    6. Here you may see different things. If you do not see options for the following step then skip it and move to the next.
    7. Scroll to Universal Serail Bus Controllers and click it.
    8. Click on the W indows version of the driver. The driver that you will select should look similar to this driver: Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 1C26 (Microsoft).
    9. This should install successfully.

I hope that this helps. It worked for me!

My case happened after I Updated from Windows 7 to 10, about 2 months ago.

Trying to solve this problem, I carefully accomplished several recommended procedures, but both my mouse and keyboard didn’t work nor could I install back the following driver:

    Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 1C2D

Since the problem was a corrupted .INF file I went to the Intel Webpage and from there run a facility to repair that file. Afterwards, installed  the mentioned 6 Series driver and from the same page using Intel(R) Driver Update Utility 2.4, made its update. The keyboard and mouse have been working well since then.

Please note that my operating system is Windows 10, the  keyboard and mouse are wireless Hewlett Packard brand, same as the computer that being a HP TouchSmart allowed me to restart it and install the driver by using the screen keyboard. The computer is a Desktop HP TouchSmart 420-1040la.
