There's a file called Unknown.exe in the task manager, which is taking up all the CPU resources, and is making the laptop extremely slow. How do I get rid of it?

[Original Title: Unknown.exe]

Send a copy of the file to VirusTotal for analysis: https://www.virustotal.com/

Where is the file located?   What is the complete path to the file.Tell us the background of the problem, when it started, etc. I presume this is a new issue!

Can you manually delete the file?

Have you just installed any new programs?  If so can you uninstall them and see if the “unknown” file will also be removed?  Anything new in the starTup menu?  If so, can you disaBLE IT?

Have you tried free scanners such as the Emsisoft Emergency Kit, the Eset Online Scanner, the Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool, Malwarebytes Free?

    1. The file was located in the C drive. C-Program files-Unknown.
    2. I hadn't noticed the problem from a long time. The laptop would heat up quickly, but I didn't bother to check it, since it was pretty old, and the memory was full, and I had intended to dispose it off soon.
    3. I couldn't delete it manually, since there's actually no file or folder called Unknown. I could access it only through task manager.
    4. Nothing new in the startup menu. I hadn't installed anything recently.
    5. And yes, MalwareBytes Free worked! It picked up a Trojan Virus, which Windows Defender was unable to pick up.

    Thank you! :)
