Can I play games while Chkdsk is running?

I'm currently running chkdsk on my external hard drive that's connected to my PC. I was wondering if I could play a game while chkdsk is running, or if it would cause any problems with the chkdsk function.

    Doing intensive things would slow CHKDSK down and CHKDSK would slow games down.  Your call
