2016-05-09T08:49:04+00:00 Hi,
I had the same problem with an eGo USB Iomega external hard drive, protected by Iomegaencryption software.
I only had a virtual CD drive in the windows explorer. The drive showed up in the Windows HDD management software, but it was impossible to do anything with it.
The solution is as follows:
You should:
- install the Iomegaencryptionsetup.exe as an administrator (right click, open as admin)
- once done, launch Iomegaencryption software on the pc with the rightClick option "Solve the compatibility problems".
Test what is proposed (Windows 7, windows Xp3, etc.) until it works.
For info, on windows 10, testing with windows xp3 did not work the first time. I had to do it again...
Don't forget to go in the options of IomegaEncryption software:
- Encryption: select Initialize (yes, it will erase all data...)
- password: set a new password
For info, I was given the Iomega HDD by a friend who could not have it work anymore, except on win XP...
Now, it works on win xp, win7, win10.
I think the best way would certainly be to suppress this bloody Iomega encryption so that the drive is always accessible...
On Windows 10, I can't: the "Virtual CD" option in Iomega Encryption is unaccessible (grey), while it is accessible with Windows 7 or Windows XP.
Hope it will help...

2012-05-11T02:36:17+00:00 It is possible that the drive is experiencing hardware failure. Have you tested it out on another computer to see if it gives the same symptoms or not?
