original title: Saving to last asved location

In XP when I would "save as" a file ie. a pic from the web, the next time I would "save as" it would go to last location that I saved.  Can this be done in Windows 7 X64, if so how?  It has done this but stopped not sure why?

Hi rocco69,

I tried replicating the scenario here and I could save the file in the last (previously) saved location.

First time, if you download anything (image, document, etc) you’re asked to specify a location to save the same. Say, I save it on the desktop. From the next instance, all the downloads would automatically go to that particular (desktop, in this case).

So, for any future downloads if this destination (desktop) is changed to (My Music) all the downloads would automatically go to My Music folder.

Do you see any different behavior here?

You may also reset the Folders and check if that fixes the issue.

Click Start, select Control Panel and Folder Options.

In Folder Options, click the View tab. To switch these folders back to their default settings, click Reset Folders.)

Hope this helps.

I have the same problem and this page Did Not Help.  I need Windows to remember the last sub-folder I was saving to. Windows used default to that.

Today, I was online with a Microsoft representative who seem to understand my problem.  He sent me a link to this page and was fairly confident that this would solve my problem.  (I am using Windows 8) It did not.

Control Panel, Folder Options, Reset Folders, etc..  Did Not Work .

I'm a Realtor and work with multiple client files during a transaction.  Each client will have 4 or 5 sub-folders.  Each document I save now requires 6 to 8 clicks to get to that sub-folder.  That can be as much of 80 clicks just to save one client’s files.

If anybody knows how to set Windows to remember the last folder I was saving to, please share.  I’m certain that there are others who have the same time-consuming issue that didn’t used to be there.

Also, does anybody know if I upgrade to Windows 10, will I be able to set a default to remember the last folder I was saving in?

I work for the government and at times we need to save files and I want any program to remember the last location I have save a file. For instance, in Microsoft Word, when I right click on an image, the default folder to save is: Libraries\Pictures  (but I want it to remember the last folder I save my other images on the server like f:\servername...) the settings do not make sense, cause it ask you to set a default location to save the images, again I do not want to save to the same folder each and everytime, for business there is folders located everywhere on the server and I want the program to remember the last location where those images had been saved, it is not too difficult to include this option, why would Microsoft remove it when this was working just fine with windows XP, frustrating. Your not helping businesses here. Also I want the Save as Type to remember the last selection, kinda like a cookie store on the PC.

I don't find the reply helpful.

I have exactly the same problem as rocco69.

On XP I would always get to the last used location when I saved something from the web with IE.

With Windows7 and IE8 I will get to the last location if I save something from the same window again, but if I open a new window I always get to the default location, for instance "picture library". I then have to browse back to the last location.

I find this very, very annoying. I tried hard to find a setup parameter that would change so I ALWAYS get to the last used location, but without success. ( Windows7 is new to me).

    How do I change this?

I have the same problem, it is really annoying. Google chrome has this option, so for now I am using that program instead of IE. I hope this can be fixed.
