BSOD from driver verifier yet driver verifier disabled

I have a system purchased from Cyberpower PC

specs here:

INTEL I5-2500 3.30 GHZ 6M LGA 1155 RETAIL

120GB INTEL 320 SATA MLC

1TB SATA III 7200 RPM 3.5" HARD DRIVE

 KINGSTON HYPER-X 4 GB  DDR3/ 1600 MHZ    x 2

COOLERMASTER HYPER 212 EVO GAMING COOLING FAN

CORSAIR CARBIDE SERIES 400R MID-TOWER GAMING CASE

 GIGABYTE Z68X-UD3H-B3 INTEL Z68 SLI/CROSSFIRE DDR3 SA

 CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX V2 POWER SUPPLY

 EVGA GTX560 TI 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E DIRCTX 11

Windows 7 Home premium

I have been having repeated BSODs upon wake up from sleep mode.  I've been troubleshooting and have already

-Uninstalled Norton Antivirus and installed Microsoft Security Essentials

-updated Realtek driver from mobo website

-updated nvidia driver

-ran memtest86 over night for 8 passes with 0 errors

-ran  sfc /scannow  and chkdsk /r from cmd line with no errors

-disable driver verifier using cmd line verifier /reset and also checking registry for driver verifier keys which were not found

Even after all this, I still received a bsod upon wake up with the driver verifier listed!!!

I would love to add the zipped bsod file but don't see an option for this.  Here is the information from bluescreenviewer though:

Hi,

Results verified by WinDBG, DumpCHK, and BlueScreenView.

BugCheck C4, {91, 0, fffffa80069bc5c0, 0}

Probably caused by : ntkrnlmp.exe ( nt! ?? ::FNODOBFM::`string'+4874 )

ntkrnlmp.exe is a Windows component which means something else drove it into Fault.

BiosReleaseDate = 09/01/2011 <- BIOS is very current however there may be updates to it,

the low level chipset drivers, and the major on-board and separate device drivers.

SystemManufacturer = Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.

SystemProductName = Z68X-UD3H-B3

BaseBoardManufacturer = Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.

BaseBoardProduct = Z68X-UD3H-B3

BaseBoardVersion = x.x

1. Use the suggestions in the previous post to update the network drivers and check the

antivirus program.

2. Check Gigabyte for updates to the BIOS, low level chipset drivers, and the major on-board

device drivers. Also update the major separate device drivers - run DriverView - set VIEW to

Hide Microsoft drivers - update those without Dump in their name.

Gigabyte Support

http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/technical-support.aspx

Gigabyte Downloads

http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/download-center.aspx

3. Run the memory test - keep in mind that memory tests do not detect all errors such as

the tiny speed differences between modules that appear to be identical. So it may be

necessary to swap the modules in and out in different combinations and patterns (see

methods at the end of this troubleshooter).

4. Use the other methods as needed in the troubleshooter below.

References to Vista also apply to Windows 7.

This is my generic how to for proper driver updates : (Check for BIOS and driver updates.)

This utility makes it easy to see which versions are loaded :

DriverView - Free - utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.

For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,

description, version, product name, company that created the driver, and more.

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html

For Drivers check System Maker as fallbacks and Device Maker's which are the most current.

Control Panel - Device Manager - Display Adapter - write down the make and complete model

of your video adapter - double click - Driver's tab - write down the version info. Now click UPdate

Driver (this may not do anything as MS is far behind certifying drivers) - then Right Click -

Uninstall - REBOOT this will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat that for Network - Network Card (NIC), Wifi, Sound, Mouse and Keyboard if 3rd party

with their own software and drivers and any other major device drivers you have.

Now go to System Maker's site (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) (as rollback) and then Device

Maker's site (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI as examples) and get their latest versions. (Look for

BIOS, Chipset and software updates at System Maker's site while there.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - Right Click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after

each installation.

Always check in Device Manager - Drivers tab to be sure the version you are installing actually

shows up. This is because some drivers rollback before the latest is installed (sound drivers

particularly do this) so install a driver - reboot - check to be sure it is installed and repeat as

needed.

Repeat at Device Makers - BTW at Device Makers DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER - check

manually by model.

Manually look at manufacturer's sites for drivers - and Device Maker's sites.

Installing and updating drivers in Windows 7 (updating drivers manually using the methods above

is preferred to ensure the latest drivers from System maker and Device makers are found)

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/43216-installing-updating-drivers-7-a.html

If you update drivers manually then it is a good idea to disable Driver Installations in Windows

Updates, this leaves Windows Updates ON however it will not install drivers which will usually be

older and cause issues. If Updates suggests a new driver then HIDE it (Right Click on it) and then

go look for new ones manually if you wish.

Here are some methods to possibly fix the blue screen issue. If you could give the Blue Screen

info that would help. Such as the BCC and the other 4 entries on the lower left. And any other

error information such as STOP codes and info such as IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or

Many BlueScreens are caused by old or corrupted drivers, especially video drivers however

there are other causes.

You can do these in Safe Mode if needed or from Command Prompt from Vista DVD or

Often updating drivers will help, usually Video, Sound, Network Card  (NIC), WiFi, 3rd party

Memory tests do not catch all errors such as mismatched memory (possible even for sticks

that appear to be identical) and when faster memory is placed in system behind slower memory.

So it is best to also swap sticks in and out to check for those even if all memory tests fail to show

After searching all over due to a similar problem, I enabled Driver Verifier and got a BSOD loop caused by it after.  Instructions to turn it off don't work.  Says its off but it isn't actually.  Got mine fixed by getting rid of verifier, posting here in case it helps someone googling!

Fix!  At least for Windows 10 -

    Boot into Safe Mode

    Find Verifier.exe and verifier.dll in C:\Windows\System

Rename them.  If you can't, force permission changes by taking ownership of the files and adding your permissions to allow renaming.

    Reboot!

My core issue was a non-os data drive cable had come loose and was causing issues.   This was immediately obvious after I got rid of verifier and was able to boot to the OS.

    thank you for the replies.

I have alreay ran the verifier /reset from a cmd (run as administrator).  I also am unable to find the keys in the registry.  I just did the search box disable as you suggested so I will see what happens.

I will look into skydrive to upload the last minidump file.

    Hi,

The Bug_Check C4 CAUSE netio.sys which is a Windows component which means that

something else drove it into Fault.

Netio.sys caused BSOD are most often the network drivers (WiFi/Wireless or NIC/Wired)

or the antivirus software (particularly McAfee is known to cause that one).

You probably do not have DriverVerifier disabled.

Upload the dmp file to a sharing site, eg skydrive and post the link to that upload back here.

Or use http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html to analize the dmp file
