Samsung Series 7 Slate PC - Upgrading to windows 10 and battery performance

Hi

I currently own a Samsung slate PC with windows 7 and have been using it for over three years now. Even though it is a versatile tool, I  have always found that its battery life is very poor.

Does anyone know if windows 10 is more energy efficient that windows 7? I'd like to hear from anyone who has a Samsung slate PC and noticed any difference on battery life since upgrading from windows 7.

Cheers

Paul

I upgraded to windows 10 on my slate 7. My battery time is the same but my slate 7 is beast on windows 10. It's still a computer on batteries that use a lot of power.  I use it as a convenience to move around as i work on it but dock it from time to time. Windows 7 was okay but when I tried to upgrade to windows 8 my touch screen stop working. Installing Windows 10 was like having a new computer everything works. But it ate up a lot of space. Again it"s a computer that has the mobility as a tablet. I love it.

    Hi Ron

I haven't upgraded the Samsung to windows 10 yet. But I'll let you know as soon as I do and let you know the results.

    Thanks

    hi paul,

i also have been enjoying the samsung 7 slate tablet

i am an ee who has created tools to assess battery life / current drain i various battery chemistries of devices modules and prototype.  in those cases i was remote controlling a special test equipment called a battery emulator  i am both an EE and a rogrammer so the algorithms i create are EE based.

sadly i have not attempted to perform similar tests on the samesung 7

i am curious as to what you have discovered since that time.

    cheers

    Hi Isha

Apologies for not acknowledging sooner. Thanks Isha for your detailed response, I have run what you have suggested and I'll see how I go.

I guess I should have framed my question in more general terms. Has Windows 10 been designed to be more energy efficient than windows 7 or is it more or less the same and largely dependent on hardware and other software you may have running?

I am just trying to isolate whether I have a hardware issue with my battery or not, as even when I run it in power saver mode it doesn't last that long. I only run windows 7, office 2010 and Norton internet security.

    Thanks

    Paul

    Hi,

Thanks for posting your query to Microsoft forum, i will certainly help you with this.

This could happen due to changes in drivers or the settings while upgrading to Windows 10.

Please try the methods below and check the issue.

Method 1: Run Power troubleshooter to fix the issue

    Follow these steps:

    1. Press Windows keyto get the Startmenu.
    2. Type Troubleshooting in the search box right up corner and hit enter.
    3. Click on Troubleshooting tab.
    4. Click on view all option on the upper left corner.
    5. Select the Power troubleshooteroptions from the list.
    6. Click Next to run the Power troubleshooter.

If the issue persists, follow method 2.

Method 2: Run the battery in minimum processor state.

    a) Press Windows and X key together and select Power options.

    b) Click on Change plan settings for the power plan that you have set on the laptop.

    c) Click Change advanced power settings.

    d) Go to Processor power management. Expand the icon and expand maximum processor state.

    e) Reduce the processor state (for both Plugged-in as well as On battery) to a certain level to verify if it makes any difference.

    f) Click onApply and then OK.

If the issue persists, follow method 3.

    Method 3: Clean Boot

Placing your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

How to perform a “clean boot” in Windows

Refer to Windows 8.1 steps, as they are applicable to Windows 10.

Note: Refer "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting" to reset the computer to start as normal after troubleshooting.

Hope this information is helpful. If the issue still persists, please post back for further assistance, we'll be glad to assist you.
