Windows 7 USB full speed driver needed

I need to force full speed mode for a device unreliable at high speed. I have a Intell 6 series/C200 series chipset enhanced host controler. Another post said disable it and another driver w/o high speed capability will take over, but when I disable it, the USB ports associated with it are dead. Since I have 2 of these in the machine, installing a USB 1.1 driver for one would be ideal. I already tried inserting a USB 1.1 hub but the computer gave error codes and could not use it. There could be something wrong with the specific hub but they are hard to find.

    Hi Robey,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

With the description, I understand that you are experiencing issues with the USB drivers on your Windows 7 machine. I will certainly help you with the query.

I would appreciate if you could help me with more information:

    1. What is the make and model number of your computer?
    2. What happens exactly when you plug in the USB in any of the ports?
    3. What is the exact error code that you get?

This issue might occur due to incorrect settings to corrupt USB drivers installed on the computer. Let’s follow below mentioned steps and check if that helps:

Method 1 :  Hardware and devices troubleshooter

The built-in hardware and devices troubleshooter can automatically detect and fix most of the incorrect settings and errors that could cause issues with hardware. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if there is any issue with the display adapter. Refer top these steps:

    1. Open Control Panel
    2. Click on Troubleshooting and select the view all option on the left pane.
    3. Click on Hardware and devices troubleshooter and follow the prompts.

Try method 2, if the issue persist

Method 2 : Uninstall and Reinstall the USB Controllers

Step 1: Uninstall the USB Controllers

    a. Press “Windows Logo” + “R” keys on the keyboard.

    b. Type “devmgmt.msc” in the run box.

    c. Search for the USB from the device list, right click on it and then select “Uninstall”. On the un-installation window, if you have an option: “Delete the driver software for this device” you may select that and then remove the corrupted drivers from the computer.

    d. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete it and then restart the computer if prompted.

After the restart, please go ahead with the next steps to install the latest drivers and check if that resolves the issue.

Step 2:****Update Driver Software from the Manufacturer’s website:

Go to the computer manufacturer’s website and search for the latest Windows 7 drivers available for the USB Controller and then install it by following the instructions given in the website.

Hope this information is helpful. Please write back to us if you need any further assistance, we'll be glad to assist you.

I was ask for a update.

I pretty much gave up on finding a software solution and purchased a used USB 1.1 only powered hub (Stratitec) As a test, it works as it should with a USB 2.0 capable flash card adapter and a low speed mouse but when I use it to drive the USB repeater which in turn drives a USB to WIFI adapter on a 5 meter cable, I get the error “USB device not recognized”. Adding another 15 meter repeater gives the same result, but when this is plugged into a computer that is inherently incapable of high speed USB, it works fine, thus proving that the principle is valid but there is some problem related to the Stratitec hub. The next thing was to insert a USB 2.0 hub between the final repeater and WIFI adapter to serve as a signal conditioner and this works with the USB 2.0 ports even with both 10 meter repeaters and the computer indicates that it is working at high speed. So for now I will be using this configuration.

No I did not try them because they do not address the problem. The dirver I have is just not designed to use full speed when it detects the chirp indicating that high speed is available. One post said some compiuters have a BIOS setting for this but I don't see it on mine, so a different driver is the only software solution.

    1. What is the make and model number of your computer?

       HP ProBook 4430s

    1. What happens exactly when you plug in the USB in any of the ports?

A message indicating that driver was successfully installed and it is reasdy to use

    1. What is the exact error code that you get?

sometimes the device is reported as having malfuncioned, sometimes it is reported as not present, sometimes it just does not respond. The problem is usualy self correcting in that funcion is usually restored without my intervention but sometimnes I have to unplug and plug in again to reset.  The device is at the end of a 10 meter repeater. If I remove the repeater the problems are gone and with it installed, general RF noise in the area makes it worse, so the lower speed and larger amplitude of the full speed signals would better overcome the problem.
