My better half is not computer literate and has no desire to become. I have too many movies and want to set up my HTPC as a giant DVD player only. I load the movies and play the movies.
What are the absolute minimum services required for windows 7 to run (and stop telling me it is not genuine) to run 2 tasks only Media player and a ripping program and absolutely positively nothing else
no firewall, ant-virus, network, internet, encryption, indexing, etc.... required.
Thank you

To make this process a little more simple, the man at the links that I have provided below, Black Viper, has done what I feel is a **DAM fine job,**at putting together MULTIPLE Windows services configurations, from the DEFAULT service states, to a "TWEAKED" state, and even a "***BARE BONES"***one, and for almost EVERY flavor of the MS Windows operating systems, from Win. XP, and even up to Win. 10!There are also configurations for the most basic of each edition even, like STARTER, HOME BASIC, and evenHOME PREMIUM, all the way up to the EDUCATION and ENTERPRISE editions even, and every edition in between! This guy really put the work in, and I appreciate him VERY much for it.
Every time, for at least the last five years now, that I have ever reloaded my OS, or tweaked any computer to run faster at someone's request, then this is one of the FIRST places that I would go, right after tuning down my PCs visual effects first usually. You can ALSO customize the list, then download it into a .csv or .pdf file format, or even print it on the spot right from the web page, so as to have a copy on hand for your future referencing of the services on your particular machine.
I.e. The person above that originally asked which services were necessary to have a running, stand-alone system, would then choose to go with the "Bare Bones" configuration for Win. 7, and for Service Pack 1 more likely than not, if the system has been updated to SP1. Most PCs have been if they have ever been online with automatic updates turned on.
Anyway, here is the link to the configurations page, and the second link is straight to the mans home page for everyone's convenience. Good luck with your service tuning everybody!
Thank you so much for the links you listed, they will be very helpful
