local area connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration- Error to connect to internet

No internet connectivity after upgrading to Windows 10, still no connectivity after reverting to Windows 7- Original Title

My problem doesn't quite seem to match any of the other posts, or at least I can't figure out how to fix my problem.

I accepted the prompt to upgrade to Windows 10 on my desktop computer which has a wired LAN connection and is part of a home network.

After the upgrade was complete, there was no internet connectivity.  I couldn't figure out a fix, none of the trouble shooting helped, I power cycled my router and my PC several times.  Panicked, and reverted to Windows 7.  Still... no internet connectivity.   Getting desperate, need help!

The network connection icon in the bottom right hand corner says "currently connected to unidentified network, no internet access".

In LAN status, IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity both say "no internet access"

I've disabled and enabled the network adapter.  It doesn't have an exclamation point next to it.

Windows Network Diagnostics says "local area connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration"

Any help would be appreciated!

    Hi,

As per the description, I suggest that you perform the command below and check.

    1. Right click on the Start Menu and select Command Prompt (Admin).

    2. Type/paste the command line below and hit Enter after every command

    ipconfig /dns

    ipconfig /release

    ipconfig /renew

    1. Once the command runs successfully type Exit
    2. Reboot and check

If the above did not work, contact your Internet Service Provider as they will be able to configure your internet connection and provide a valid IP address.

    Hope this helps

This was quite helpful except that the renew just hangs and hangs. Any suggestions?

To further add to the troubleshooting provided, we recommend following the steps on this article: How to reset TCP/IP by using the NetShell utility

You may also consider updating the network drivers as it was not mentioned yet on this current thread.

Let us know if this resolved the issue.

    Hi

This doesn't work, I get. Timed out trying to connect to dchp (or similar acronym)

where do I place my IP address in Windows? I've got one on the back of my hub so I can just type it in.

and why does Windows randomly do this annoying awful stuff?

    thanks

    Hi,

I would suggest you to perform a SFC Scan and check if it helps.

Refer to the following link given below.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833

Note: While performing SFC Scan I would recommend you to make sure that there are no applications or programs running on the back ground.

Hope this information helps. Please let us know if you need any other assistance with Windows in future. We will be happy to assist you.
