Problem installing Asus AC53 wireless adapter

I bought a 2 sets of Asus ac53 wireless adapters last weekend. The installation of the adapter went off without a hitch on my wife's computer, but I ran into a whole host of problems for mine.

Firstly, the Asus wireless constantly reports the adapter as "not installed" after I plug it out of the USB port. Second. there are no wireless networks detected at all. Even after running "Diagnose the problem", it says there is a problem with the access points even though the other computers in the house are connected to the network and can also detect all other wireless networks in range. Third, after numerous re-installations of the driver from the CD that came with the product, the Installshield for the program fails to start and requires a reboot for it to start working again. Next, there is a problem with the Virtual WiFi Miniport with this error msg popping up:  There is a problem with the driver for Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter #2. The driver needs to be reinstalled.

I have tried switching the adapters around, but the problem is still the same, so it cant be the adapter fault.  I have also taken the following steps:

1st Uninstall ASUS Utility & Driver, restart pc

2nd Open My Computer > C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS folder

3rd Delete USB-AC53 WLAN Card Utilities Folder

4th Open Registry edit> Run regedit

5th HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ASUS

6th Delete 3 ASUS folder :

ASUS WLAN Card USB-AC53 Utilities

ASUS USB-AC53 WLAN Card Utilities/Driver

ASUS USB-AC53 WLAN Card Utilities

Restart PC

Download latest driver from official web site and install again.

make sure you disable anti virus/firewall while installing driver

The device still fails to work. However, when I open the Device manager, it says that the Wireless Adapter #3 is working properly.

The ASUS driver for this does not work.  I've seen multiple reports of this online.  Uninstall the ASUS driver and utilities and use the generic Windows Driver.  You won't get full speed out of it but it will work a more consistently and it will be faster than a N adapter.

I have purchased and am now returning the same device.

It did not install either on a Win 7 or Win 8 OS.

Drivers weren't signed by ASUS (absolute embarrassment) and all attempts at handshaking on both spectrums failed with or without security.

I gave up and did a clean installation on win7. There is a small improvement in that I am able to connect to the network using the Windows Wireless Manager (WWM). However, once I try to connect using the Asus Utility or even try to run Diablo 3, the adapter drops the connection to the Internet.

I have to turn off the utility/game in order for me to troubleshoot the problem which will then reconnect me back to the network - till the next time i try to run either program again.

    Hello,

Try scanning your computer with RadarSync. It might detect the driver/drivers which causing the issue. Or have you tried checking your firewall settings of your anti-virus. It might be blocking the access points.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    David
