logitech webcam microphone - annoying echo/feedback sounds from speakers

Got a logitech C260 webcam (using windows 7 home premium.) The built-in mic (on the webcam) sounds better on recordings than the laptop mic... or even an external mic for the built-in jack. It has no background noise, and just a nicer quality sound. However, the webcam mic always has an echoing sound coming from my speakers, even when the webcam itself is not in use. The mic is so sensitive that it picks up the sound of my keystrokes as I'm typing this message.  When I disconnect my external speakers from the laptop, then I get feedback if I talk to loud (or actually when I talk normal!)  So it's better to have the speakers  pluggen in.

Two questions... how can I get the mic to turn off when the cam turns off?  And more importantly, how can I stop the echoing sound when I'm actually using the webcam on skype or recordings?

    Hi,

Method 1: Let’s update the webcam drivers and check if the issue persists. Refer to the link provided below to install the drivers for hardware that isn't working properly.

‘Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly’

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly

You may download the latest drivers for the webcam from the following link.

    http://www.logitech.com/en-us/435/7075

Method 2: If the above step did not help then follow the steps below and check if that helps,

    a)      Open Sound by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type sound, and then click Sound.

    b)      Click the Recording tab, click Line In, and then click Properties.

    c)       Click the Listen tab, uncheck Listen to this device, and select 'Disable automatically to save power' and then click OK.

    d)      Click on Advanced tab and under Exclusive Mode, uncheck the 'Allow application to take exclusive control of the device'.

Method 3: Refer the following to troubleshoot the audio issues on the webcam and check if that helps.

Annoying speaker sound feedback was driving me mad on my laptop too!  The following easy trick worked for me:

Go to:   Start, Control Panel, Sound.

    Click 'Recording' Tab.

Double-click on the microphone icon  (mine is 'Realtek High Definition Audio Default Device')

Click 'Levels' TAB         (tab is near top of window - like folder tab)

Slide the 'Microphone Boost' down to just a bit over the centre marker

    Click 'Ok' and 'Ok' again.

    Et voila!

No more annoying feedback, and the sound is fine - still sufficiently loud - on my laptop.

Phew - what a relief!   I discovered this by accident - when halfway through trying a more complicated suggestion - and it worked.  Before I was getting ringing echoey vibratey sounds coming through my speakers all the time, and awful high pitched wining when trying to use skype!!  Problem solved!

Hope this helps you too!  :)  June 1st 2012
