Hi, I was wondering what parts of my old pc should I change to make it run faster for example the ram or the flash card, hard drive. If you would please tell me what parts of the computer affect the speed and what parts I could change that would be a huge help. Thank you and I will be sure to reply back in 24 hours.

Go to the manufactures website and help/ support sections and download the latest chipset and vga drivers because yours is pitifully out of date showing a w.e.i. of 1 :)

Yes.  Disable any applications and program you do not need.  Note: Don't disable anything that is listed as or contains the words Microsoft, audio, windows, or any antivirus/anti-spyware programs; or anything that is critical to the functioning of your computer. Also, do not defragement a Solid State Drive, a hard disk which does not move.  This is unnecessary and can even shorten the lifespan of the drive.

Checking Your Hard Disk for Errors

If you want improved performance, you can install a newer operating system such as Windows 8/8.1or Windows 10.  Most likely, the 64-bit versions will be better.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.  I am happy to help.

Almost all the parts affect the speed. Which you should change depends on what is slowing you down, and what is slowing you down depends on what you are doing.

So it's very difficult to give you advice on what to change. Almost any such advice is likely to be wrong.

Also note that the Windows Experience Index is largely meaningless and useless. Don't go by it.

Over and above that, the best thing for you to do is very likely to replace *everything*--in other words, buy a new more modern computer.

Skat0r vista has offered good advice.   I would add this.....

    If this was my system:

    1. I would be most suspicious of malware, run ADWcleaner and have a good antivirus program
    2. I would be using my hard drive manufacturer's drive testing program to ensure it is not failing
    3. I would want to be certain that none of the hard drives are more than 75% in use
    4. I would check my memory using Windows 7's memory checker
    5. I would install and run Autoruns to check to see what is in the start up process
    6. AND, most importantly, take a close look at the applications installed.  Some of them are notorious resource pigs that insist on running on startup.
    7. Remove programs/applications from startup unless I actually need them to startup

Common miscreants that cause slow start ups:

    • Garmin Express
    • Roxio anything
    • Skype
    • uTorrent
    • Frostwire
    • Trusteer
    • Dropbox
    • Onenote
    • Evernote
    • All Apple products
    • Quickbooks
    • Spotify
    • Pandora
    • AOL desktop
    • Some games, particularly online ones

There are so many factors involved in the performance of your operating system.  Do not rely on the Windows Experience Index alone as it does not tell how your PC is.  If your PC is slow, it needs to be tuned up (software and/or hardware).  If it is fast, ignore the WEI.

    Software Fixes

Microsoft has created a support article that goes through many of the things that can be done to optimize and speed up your computer.  View the article here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/15055/windows-7-optimize-windows-better-performance

Also, always run Windows Update.  It is recommended to set it to update automatically so you do not have to worry.  The latest security and performance fixes are rolled out on a regular basis.  These will help keep your PC fast.  If you have an issue with Windows 10 automatically installing, visit this page by clicking here.

    Hardware Replacements

    • First, try the software fixes.
    • Maximum 4GB of Ram for a 32 bit OS.  If you want more RAM, upgrade to a 64-bit Windows 7 version.  64-bit versions handle memory better.
    • Processor looks good.
