Help with a steam game (Napoleon Total war)

I run windows 8.1 and Napoleon total war will not work. All other steam games work fine, and Napoleon total war worked fine on my old laptops (windows 7 and mac). I have tried asking in steam support, steam community, TW center, and the TW forums, but none have been able to help making me think it may be a Windows issue. FYI: i use NO MODS. The game is pure vanilla.

As for my computer specs - I am running an MSI GT80 SLI-263 on Windows 8.1, with dual GTX 980Ms.

The main issue is that the game simply will not launch. When i click it after install, it says running for a second in steam then stops working. Unlike other steam games it does not do the first launch setup (running the VC redist and DX install automatically)

Please note that i have tried downloading and redownloading almost a dozen times now via steam

i have deleted the .blob file

all my drivers are up to date

steam is up to date

i have tried launching in offline mode

i have tried launching in steam beta

i have tried running as administrator

i have allowed access into firewall for the program

i have tried compatibility mode for Windows 8 and 7

I have tried verifying game cache - it always says 1 file failed to validate and would be reaquired (but never is)

i have tried manually running VC redist and DX via the game files

i have tried using the preference.script.txt file from the Zulu mod in my own script folder (which was empty) with the gfx first run set to both true and false.

i have deleted the app data and steam folder then uninstalled and reinstalled from steam

i have used ccleaner to wipe residual files

Now, I have tried dozens of different solutions but nothing seems to work (see above for some of them). If you have any ideas, please reply.

Thanks!

    Hello Morris,

Thank you for your response. However, i fear that it has not worked.

Even in clean boot the issue has persisted. I followed all of the instructions, and when i attempted to open steam it said i had to install the steam service, and when i authorized it steam stopped responding.

As to your suggestions that i reinstall the graphics drivers and Steam, i had already attempted this, and both failed unfortunately.

This problem is a real head scratcher indeed.

    Thanks anyways,

    Tater
