I could/do not see a difference.

If an update is 'recommended" how could it NOT be 'suggested', and vice versa....

    Hello,

As per the issue description, I understand that you would like to know the differences and information about Windows update. I will certainly answer your query.

Suggested & Recommended they both are same however please follow the information given below in details.

Windows Update is a Microsoft service that's used to provide updates like service packs and patches for the Windows operating system and other Microsoft software. Windows Update can also be used to update drivers for popular hardware devices. Updates often include feature enhancements and security updates to protect Windows from malware and malicious attacks.

Windows Updates are classified as Important, Recommended, Optional, and Featured. Here's what they mean:

    • Important updates offer significant benefits, such as improved security, privacy, and reliability. They should be installed as they become available, and can be installed automatically with Windows Update.

    • Recommended updates address non-critical problems or help enhance your computing experience. While these updates do not address fundamental issues with your computer or Windows software, they can offer meaningful improvements. These can be installed automatically.

    • Optional updates can include updates, drivers, or new software from Microsoft to enhance your computing experience. You can only install these manually.

Depending on the type of update, Windows Update can deliver the following:

    • Security updates. A broadly released fix for a product-specific security-related vulnerability. Security vulnerabilities are rated based on their severity, which is indicated in the Microsoft security bulletin as critical, important, moderate, or low.

    • Critical updates. A broadly released fix for a specific problem addressing a critical, non-security related bug.

    • Service Packs. A tested, cumulative set of hotfixes, security updates, critical updates, and updates, as well as additional fixes for problems found internally since the release of the product. Service Packs might also contain a limited number of customer-requested design changes or features.

Hope it helps, Please write back to us if you need any further assistance, we'll be glad to assist you.

    Regards

    Kumar Ravi,

I thank you for this info.

I am sure you can see the confusion here, as 'recommended & suggested' could both be considered relatively similar.

Again, thank you for this clarification.

    Kumar Ravi,

Okay maybe I was not clear in my question. So let me restate it:

“In the 'windows updates' what is the SPECIFIC difference between

    "Important & Recommended"?”

Now if you would please verify the specific difference between the settings of “important” and “recommended”. I would greatly appreciate you sharing the knowledge of the difference. As it would seem to me that if something is “Recommended” how could it not be “Important”. And therefore, subsequently how could something be “Important” yet not “Recommended”. And please do not continue to quote me text, Scripture, verse, etc. etc. from the Microsoft BIBLE.

In other words, can you explain to me, in layman’s terms, what the specific difference is between “Important” and “Recommended” so that I may appropriately align my settings.

My IT class is eager to hear Microsoft’s response to this question.

    Respectfully,

    Charles F. Ward
