Adding mutliple Genres/ Tags to an Mp3 song in a folder

This is just a minor problem I'm encountering.

After years of trying to have a good folder of music, I'm now trying to organize and build it.

I listen to music from the internet, and most of the genres I like are not that common.

I have a few files in a folder and can edit artist name and song name, genre. but

I can't add a second genre, nor find a place to tag the mp3 file.

Essentially I'm trying to add a way to re organize my folder to find stuff easier.

It's not a huge deal if I can't get more than one genre on an mp3 file.

But I'd like to be able to click the title button ( such as: name/ type/size/author/genre) so it reorganizes the list by genre.

I'm not looking to get a program to add tags or fiddle with things really.

Any suggestions are appreciated

    Thanks for the Reply Ric.

I took a look through that forum, and Although it looks like you solved that guy's problem, it isn't quite applicable for me.

Quite Frankly, I listen to Edm From places like New Grounds, where I can download the mp3 files and plop them in a folder on my windows 10 desktop.

the way Edm goes is a lot of it can be categorized into multiple Genres. (for example, and 80's song remixed into a dance song?)

To be honest, I will probably never use a music management program like WMP. To be Honest, I do not want the player to find more information about it on the internet.

I have Found VLC Media Player can edit the metadata of mp3 files.

You can add a second genre, but as soon as you do, looking at the file properties (windows 10), it will not let me edit or view the genre.

If getting 2 genres is going to be this complex, I might as well just give up.

the only reason to have genres in there is to be able to categorize them in the windows folder.

One option might be to open a new user account specifically for an alternative genre-based music library. The main consideration here would be how extensive your music library is and how much free hard-drive space you have available.

I do this for high quality music files such as classical which I like to keep in wav. or lossless format - along with a selection of favourite mainstream stuff. It means that I can avoid duplication of items in my main account library, but I can still access everything from it. The only time I need to log in to the second account is if I want to amend anything like album art.

    Well, i thought of something,

Since the mp3 files are getting the author and song title in the actual metadata, i can use the file name for genres...i can add many, the only problem then is trying to sort from songs of a specific genre. but it's a step in the right direction.

Thanks for the update - I think I understand your needs a little better now, but I' not sure there's any workable method available. Perhaps someone out there has thought of a work-around for something similar so let's leave this open and wait & see. - Regards, R.

Hi - I was dealing with a similar topic in the thread below so you may like to look through it (particularly the screenshots) and see if there are some useful hints for what you want to do.

You are correct that you cannot add a second genre but you could put it in the 'comments' field (properties/details) or create your own genre for that matter. If you pick up anything that you'd like detailed, get back... Cheers, Ric.

btw Management of this may be slightly different in an earlier Windows OS, so please include that in any update...
