MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ8C0 -- Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Hello, I've only had this laptop for about a month now and the DVD/CD drive has stopped working. I can't think of a reason as to why, but it's really thrown me for a loop. I've tried to update drivers, but it's told me that it's up to date. All the other information I've found for this device has been really sketchy, so I haven't really wanted to risk anything unfixable.

    FIXED   The Solution I found that worked for me..   Go into Control Panel and find go to Programs  Uninstall a program.  Look for these 2 programs to uninstall.  Toshiba Recovery Media Creator  and Toshiba Disc Creator.  If both programs are not listed the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator should be there.  Uninstall it and when completed it will ask you to restart the computer.   Don't shut it down, do a restart.  When the machine restarts go to Device Manager and the listed devices should now show "DVD/CD-Rom drives".  The yellow triangle with the exclamation mark in it should be gone and your drive should now work and be recognized.     This solution was listed as a fix for Windows 8 but it worked for me when I used it to solve the yellow triangle error in my Windows 10 installation.   Good Luck   Support.Toshiba.com helped with suggestions.     I struggled with this issue for months and this solution worked great.  kenole

    THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

    I cannot tell you how happy I am to have done just one more search to try to fix my dvd player problem! I was ready to dump this laptop and buy another. My dvd player hasn't worked since I stupidly upgraded to Windows 8.

    I even asked an IT type (not a full time job) how to fix it. No clue.

    Thanks agian!

    Hi,

    Code 19 means there is a driver conflict such as two devices trying to use the same resources.

    Having too many CD/DVD programs can cause strange issues, especially if they load parts

    of themselves at StartUp as they will compete for resources. This does not mean this issue

    was caused by those however it is a possibility depending on which and how many you

    have installed. Uninstall those like iTunes, Nero, and others which might be the cause to

    see if that helps.

    Use this - and you may need to use it again after trying the methods below.

    What if a device isn't installed properly? (Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter)

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/what-device-isnt-installed-properly

    Check with the System Maker's Support, their on-line documentation and drivers, and

    ask in their  forums about any known issues. Check for updates to the BIOS, low level

    chipset drivers,  and the major on-board and separate device drivers.

    =====================================================

    From the DeskTop - WINKEY + D while on the Start Screen to access the DeskTop :

    WINKEY + X  OR  place the mouse in the lower left corner and Right Click - Command Prompt (ADMIN)

    Enter the below (or COPY and PASTE ) :

    reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

    REBOOT

    (from AtishayMSFT)

    ===================================================

    Do these to clear corruption and repair/replace damaged/missing system files.

    From the DeskTop - WinKey + X - Command Prompt (Admin)

    SFC /scannow

    (space between C and / )

    Then run run CheckDisk  - chkdsk /r  (the /r includes /f parameter checks)

    WinKey + X - Command Prompt (Admin)

    chkdsk /r

    (space between k and / )

    Or run CheckDisk from within Windows 8 :

    Improve performance by optimizing your hard drive - see "To repair a drive"

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/improve-performance-optimizing-hard-drive

    WinKey + X - Control Panel

    Try this - Control Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click the device - Driver's

    Tab - click Update Drivers (this will likely do nothing) - then RIGHT CLICK the drive -

    UNINSTALL - REBOOT this will refresh the default driver stack

    ====================================================

    If needed :

    Try doing a "Refresh your PC without affecting your files" (or changing your personal

    settings) or even a Restore.

    Windows 8 includes special methods to Refresh (keep files and settings)  or a Reset

    (new install removing all).

    Hi,

    That may not solve the problem either... this is somewhat of a common problem in Win 8... your best bet would be to try the first tip listed...

    REBOOT

    If nothing else here works, is there any other possible solution other than refreshing or restoring? I just finished fixing all the issues refreshing brought around (I had to previously for the integrated graphics) so I'm really reluctant to try it again.
