Windows Update Troubleshooter Windows 7

My Win 7 Home Premium laptop is set to check for updates but let me decide ... Windows will check for updates and list them, but the updates will not download, no matter how many hours I allow. The progress color just keeps moving across the bar and the status reads 0 kb of 0 forever. I tried to use the Update Troubleshooter with no luck. The result is a perpetual "checking for updates online." What is my next step. I should note my husband inadvertently loaded Windows 10 on this machine awhile ago. I rolled it back to Windows 7 about half an hour later after he realized Solitaire was gone.

I imagine after a win-10 experience you'd need to reset the update system,

Reset the update system with Option 3 on the top link for an automated way,

    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/91738-windows-update-reset.html

This M$ way is not very good but if you feel better using a M$ process,

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

Try using this to reset the update system it's very good and my personal favorite :)

Use Option 2 on the list after right clicking it and select run as administrator

    https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Reset-Windows-Update-Agent-d824badc

Download it to your downloads folder

Right click it and select Extract all to the downloads folder.

Then right click ResetWUEng and select run as administrator

Follow the rest of the prompts

    Press any key to continue

Type 2 for that Option on the list and the Enter key to reset update services..

Press y for Yes and then the Enter key I believe twice

    After it has completed

Type 15 for that option and the Enter key to restart the machine.

Should say will restart in 60 seconds save your work.... press any key to continue.

After restart go to windows updates and manually check for updates shouldn't take a few minutes.

You should start a new topic/question/thread.

This one has a lot of bad advice - especially from the Microsoft engaged alleged "experts".  These alleged "experts" have never demonstrated the ability to resolve Windows Update problems.

In the future, you can save time and frustration by avoiding replies that begin with the word "Hi" or "Hello", contain "Methods" and "Steps", suggestions that begin with the word "try" and end with "let us know how it goes", "give it a try" or "check if it helps" because it is extremely unlikely to help.
