how do I change a jpeg icon to show the picture instead of the icon

My desktop icons for jpegs just changed on itself.  Oh I am sure I did something, but I don't know what.  My icons for jpegs on my desktop, and other places used to show the actual picture.  Now it just shows this ugly little icon thing. I would like my pictures back.  Also, my files on my desktop used to show what was in the file, somewhat, now they just look like empty file folders, even though they have things inside of them.

Can any one help me change my desktop back to normal?

Thanks

Mel

    Thumbnails,

Open your my pictures location, click on organize on the top left side, click on the folder and search options, click the View tab and uncheck the top option, always show icons and never thumbnails, select apply to folders on the top, and apply and okay on the bottom.

    Suggestions :

1.Sounds like this is a recent issue. If you remember a "good date " when you did not have this problem, do a system restore.

Pick that "good date " as your restore point.

I did not see "Organize" on my Windows 10 ribbon.

What I did was follow this and it worked:

Click on your Documents folder icon

On the ribbon click on the View tab

    Click on Options

The 1st thing should be is Change Folder & Search Options. Click on that

    Click on the View tab

The first thing on the list is the section for Files and folders. The only box that should be checked is:

    Display File Icon On Thumbnail.

Click Apply on the bottom and the Apply To Folders box near the top.

    Click Yes and then Okay.

All folders will now show any picture associated with it. Even on the desktop.

Yea< It Will Not Allow Me To "Apply To Folders" Does Exactly NOTHING? Why Does Microsoft Refuse To Provide Service For Their Crap Computers? These Answers Are Dated 2012? And They Still Do Not Work? Nevermind, I Am Headed To The Apple Store To Buy A Real Computer, Before Microsoft Comes Out With Windows 11 And Edgier.

Thank you so much.  It worked, all of my folders are back to normal, and my jpegs that are on my desktop now look like the pictures that they are and I do not have to guess.  Plus you taught me how to fix it.

    Thank you so much!
