Hello all!

First at of all sorry if the text becomes garbled as I'm limited to my phone only right now!

I have a Samsung RF510 Laptop running Windows 7 which now sadly does not seem to want to boot.

Ive been googling and it seems to have happened to a fair few people but none of the suggestions have worked for me.

boots to startup repair which tells me it can't repair automatically and problem details:

problem event name : startuprepairoffline

problem signature 1: 6.1.7600.16385

pronlem signature 2: 6.1.7600.16385

Problem signature 3: Unknown

problem signature 4: 21200438

problem signature 5: Autofailover

problem signature 6: 19

problem signature 7: corrupt file

OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1

locale Id: 1033

I have the installation disc however I have a suspicion my disc drive doesn't work as it hasn't been able to play/load anything from disc drive for more than a year

been in the bios screen to change boot order but disc doesn't seem to work

within the actual computer it does give me options after failed start up repair of

'startup repair'- doesn't work

'system restore' - states no restore point created

'System image recovery'- can't find an image

'Windows memory diagnostic'- runs and finds no issues

'command prompt'

I tried a few things online on command prompt including things I've seen on this forum to no avail

it displays

'X:\windows\system32'

as far as I know my drive wasn't 'X'

So so in summary I have no idea and o would gratefully appreciate all and any help! Also I'm sorry if I've not tried anything obvious but computers are just not my area of expertise!

Cheers again,

Sean

Hi Richard,

To boot from CD/DVD Drive, follow the steps below:

1. Insert the disk. The disk must be bootable CD or DVD such as your Windows installation disk or a diagnostic disk.

2. Reboot your computer. Before you can boot from a CD or DVD, you need to make sure that the CD/DVD drive is set as the primary boot device.

  • When you see the manufacturer’s logo, hit the key displayed to enter the BIOS setup menu. The key may vary per manufacturer. The most common keys are F2, F10, F12, and Del. The key you need to hit will be displayed below the logo, or on the side of the screen.
  • Once you are in the BIOS menu, select the Boot sub menu. All manufacturers use slightly different BIOS layouts, so look for a variation on the name Boot.
  • In the Boot menu, use the arrow keys to highlight the first device and change it to the CD/DVD player. Each BIOS menu will have a different way of displaying your drive. Some will list it by manufacturer, some label it Optical Drive, and others will simply say CD/DVD.
  • Once your CD/DVD drive is set as the primary boot device, save your changes and exit. This will restart the computer.

3. Boot from the CD/DVD. Once the manufacturer’s logo disappears, most likely you will be prompted to press any key to boot from CD. Some bootable CDs will start automatically.

Feel free to get back to us if you need further assistance.

Regards,

Hello Sean,

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft community.

I appreciate you for providing details about the issue and your efforts towards resolving it.

This issue may occur due to corrupt or missing Windows startup files. This may also happen due to damaged MBR(Master Boot Record).

I would suggest you to use bootrec.exe tool and check if it helps.

Refer this article:

Use Bootrec.exe in the Windows RE to troubleshoot startup issues

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/927392

You may create Windows 7 installation media using this link.

Refer:

I hope this information helps.

Please do let us know if you need any further assistance.

Thank you

How does one select the "Boot to DVD drive" if the keyboard isn't active?  System Restore has been 'Restoring files...' for 2 hours now & I'm thinking it may be time to stop it & try something else.
