In which cases the application's appOwnerOrganizationId will be "Microsoft Accounts" (9188040d-6c67-4c5b-b112-36a304b66dad) ?

I see multiple applications where the appOwnerOrganizationId is 9188040d-6c67-4c5b-b112-36a304b66dad. Some of the applications were clearly not published or owned by Microsoft. Applications with "Microsoft Accounts" publisher for example - Jira Cloud, OneDrive for slack, etc.

A quick search revealed it translates to "Microsoft Accounts".

  1. What does "Microsoft Accounts" as publisher means?
  2. In which cases the publisher of an app will be "Microsoft Accounts"?

Thanks.

Hello @Ity ,

Thanks for reaching out.

It depends on how the application is registered, for an example: if you create an app using an Microsoft Account (MSA) e.g. outlook/hotmail, then it will be published in MSA tenant (MSA tenant GUID:9188040d-6c67-4c5b-b112-36a304b66dad and Name: microsoftaccounts.onmicrosoft.com).

In other case, lets say there are couple of apps, registered in microsoftaccounts.onmicrosoft.com (registered by users with personal Microsoft accounts) as multi-tenant apps so when one of your organization's users try to access them, then this would also create an app entry with appOwnerOrganizationId:9188040d-6c67-4c5b-b112-36a304b66dad .

Hope this helps.
