Hi after 32 bit to 64 bit upgrade the above  Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 is the only update I have received from the microsoft windows update facility, all settings are set to recieve updates automatically(recommended) I think I have installed the relative data from the old windows folder set up prior to the upgrade and used the windows easy transfer facility to transfer other data that may be required, should I be expecting other updates to follow? please advise

    Hi,

This was a no-go from before day -1, for some unexplained reason this toshiba satellite L550-1CW-pslwoe-08n00wen

is immune to any changes according to toshiba and they honestly cannot give me any explanations other than the laptops age (2008)

It will not allow the upgrade from 32 bits to 64 bits winds 7, and certainly not winds 10, it is not compatible. I should have realised when the unit could not be installed with bluetooth package installation a couple of years ago.

When I did the windows upgrade check it was fine according to microsoft, I suspect something went awry on the production line in china, it would be interesting to see how many of the 1CW-PSLWOE were actually produced.

Back to winds 7 32 bit and I suspect this is going to be a nightmare on re-installation, are there any relative packages available to try and prevent the following inevitable headaches over the next few weeks?

I know it's not the end of the world but! not a happy chappy!!!!!

Hi again, I am no computer buff so could you please explain why the workings of the computer/laptop should start to fail and what actually is the wear and tear damage a unit will endure during it's lifetime, I thought that I had been very careful and meticulous in maintaining this laptop over the years.

The only thing I think there may be a problem is when I tried to uninstall the windows 7 64 bit, I noticed that the system stated there was no possibility in trying to factory reset this laptop, maybe due to a partition issue!

The disc drive you mention 'Toshiba MK2555GSX' as been replaced three times and never really had a problem with the replacements and I use western digital software for the maintenance of all other drives but if you think that it might help I will take your offer of the toshiba link you offered.

    Thank you

    Kind Regards

Toshiba is correct.  The statistical probability of your 8 year old laptop living another month is pretty close to zero.

It is not the least surprising it could not run 64 bit.

Before proceeding, check the disk drive is PHYSICALLY not about to fail.  Download and run the hard drive manufacturer's driver tester software.  I can give you a link if you will give me the model number of the drive which you can find in Device manager.
