windows 8.1 I've got a hp pavilion laptop with touch screen ive just recently been given it off my father who brought it about 15 months ago but never used it. When he bought it he must of used the free trial of MacAfee, now I cant get rid of it I think AGV scaned my computer and it told me tjat I have 11 drives out of date. And obsolete I think it said does that mean that I don't need them. If I do can I down load then for free from HP or windows   thanks

Hi,

  1. You get your Drivers from HP.
  2. The chances are that your computer is infected with Malware as McAfee subscription is out of date and Windows Defender, the default AV in 8.1, will not run while McAfee is still installed, so your computer was unprotected from new malware attacks since the McAfee subscription ended..
  3. Read and follow these steps:

At present you do not have the latest Anti-virus protection as McAfee subscription has expired and you are in all probability infected with Malware.

You need to remove McAfee completely and get Windows Defender started again as 3rd party AVs disable Windows Defender (which is an Anti-virus) by default and do a thorough scan of your machine for Malware.

Use the McAfee Removal Tool.

How to restart Defender:

https://www.winhelp.us/configure-windows-defender-in-windows-8.html

If you've previously uninstalled a third-party antivirus product (avast!, AVG, Norton/Symantec, McAfee or some other product), you might see a dialog that states that Windows Defender is turned off. In that case, either click Action Center's white flag icon in Taskbar Notification Area (aka System Tray) and clickTurn on virus protection (Important) or Turn on spyware protection (Important), or open Control Panel (Windows Key+X has a nice shortcut), type action into Search field, clickAction Center and then click one of the Turn on now buttons in Security section.

Please note that Action Center might have no red warning icon for several days after you've removed a third-party virus protection tool.
