No brightness control in WIN 7 home premium

The keyboard supplied with computer, a SONY all-in-one desktop - had F5 & F6 for brightness control but since has been replaced with a Logitech MX5500 which has no brightness control. There is no brightness control slider under "power options" and no brightness control in vaio care under "display"

The windows 7 software never had a brightness control slider under power options. I always used the FN 5&6 on the keyboard to adjust brightness.

The advice from other so-called experts in this and other sites was to uninstall then reinstall the monitor in

device manager and updating the driver. Nope, bad science. After searching the web for a newer driver, the message was, "the best driver is already installed"

The power options page lists Balanced, Power saver, High performance, Intervideo WINDVD. None of those include an option to adjust brightness. In Vaio Control center, under Power options, there is no control. Under display there is no control. Under "Special Buttons" there is a setting for "Max Brightness" but there is no directions as to where the button is located. The settings tab is grayed out. I checked for an updated Nvidia graphics driver but it was not compatible, even though they listed the same Nvidia GeForce GT 240M as in my machine as compatible.

Also, in "Color calibration" there is supposed to be a way to adjust the brightness, but on the pages for adjusting brightness, there is no tab or control to do that.

The touchscreen has an onscreen keyboard and I tried to push the FN key and the F5 & F6 but to no avail. All that happened was a message asking where to input the letter.

I've seen many people posting problems with brightness control issues. Such a simple adjustment and the technicians at Microsoft and/or SONY have not provided any solutions.

You can adjust brightness in control panel-> Appearance->Display->Adjust brightness->balanced-> change plan settings->adjust plan brightness-> save changes

Or in adjust brightness window just see below near task bas you have a option to adjust the brightness.

Thanks but reducing the brightness 50% is not what I'm looking for. I want to be able to ADJUST the brightness to my liking.

Don't let my lack of responding ruin your day, Fred. After all, this is just a virtual world. I did respond and the solution you suggested is not what I'm looking for. I don't think writing code should be necessary to perform a simple task such as adjusting brightness.

You must be kidding. Why would I let your lack of interest ruin my day?

If you look hard enough, using a search engine, then you will find some third-party app that will do exactly what you want. I tripped over it one month ago after posting my script.

I don't think writing code should be necessary to perform a simple task such as adjusting brightness. If pressing a key on a SONY keyboard can do it, then there must be another way of accessing control of that feature without such a complicated procedure.
