Flight Simulator X Windows 10 Compatability

I fully understand that flight Simulator X is not supported by Windows 10 and that is why I'm here, to request support and updates on flight Simulator X.

Flight Simulator X by it's self works( including multiplayer) but I encountered problem when I installed Acceleration expansion pack, No dialog to activate it poped up causing it to go into a sortive 'demo mode' where I can not access multiplayer (although single player works). If I want to access multiplayer i have to uninstall Acceleration expansion pack and install the service pack 2 and vice versa to get Acceleration to work (uninstall service pack 2 (as apparently acceleration has it included) and install acceleration).

pretty much a 'service pack 3' that would fix any capability issues Fsx has with windows 10 would be great.

As a user of win 7 pro I had no difficulties running microsoft flight simulator X. Since upgrading to win 10 pro I have been unable to install this program. As a long time user of this program I am exteemly disapointed . I also find it difficult to follow some suggestions in correcting this issue having reached the grand old age of 90

FSX is no longer supported by MS nor will there be any further updates/SPs, etc.

From your post, I understand that you can install Acceleration Pack and get it to work, except you cannot activate it.   I haven't seen any conclusive fixes for this, except to check your Registry entry that deals with any(?) FSX activation issues.   You can check the following as a first up solution:

    1. Run regedit (Windowskey +R)

    1. Expand the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\CLASS{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    1. After you find the folder, double-click Upperfilters on the right side.

4 . Change the value from 0 to PartMgr and then click OK.  If PartMgr is already there, then leave it as is.

    5. Close Registry Editor

    1. Start FSX/Accel and hopefully you will get the registration wizard.

The following is MS' take on it:   https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/960481

Or lastly, uninstall FSX completely (that is, remove any references to it in its directory, other locations and Registry).   Reboot computer.   Reinstall FSX and take a flight and shut it down.  Install SP1 and take a flight then shut it down.   Try installing Acceleration Pack and see how you go.

Just a few thoughts, which you may have already checked out earlier, for you to consider.

Firstly, congratulations on reaching 90 yrs of age!   And also still trying to keep your flying skills honed at this age says a lot about your energy levels and enthusiasm.

It's sad that you are not able to get your FSX running on Windows 10.   Many have had this problem, as a cursory glance in this Community Forum will reveal.

If you need further help, can you write back the nature of the problem (i.e. does your Disk 1 not load at all;  it loads and the set up screen comes but it does nothing else;  or maybe you have since installed it but FSX won't launch).   Can you see if there is any error message that comes up on your screen and also any problem reported in your Event Viewer (to get to this:  right click on the Windows icon at the bottom left of the screen and then click on Event Viewer.   It will take a while to populate this window as it has to search many areas of your system.   Then click on Administrative Events and see if there is any error coming up in relation to FSX.   Right click on the Error line and go into properties and an expanded view of the problem will appear).   I would be interested in the Error Code and the Faulting Module details in particular.

Hopefully, we can find out where the problem is located as I do know that FSX runs in Win10 and runs very well.   Win10 does require more of your computer resources so I hope that FSX will not bog down here.

Finally Fix it. I tried several reinstalls and finally realised the value of the Upperfilters entry in the registry was all lower case! When I changed this to match exactly "PartMgr" and restarted FSX I got the registration wizard and was able to activate Acceleration. The value is case sensitive. So far so good and all seems to be working now. Hope this helps someone else.
