A few years ago Microsoft produced a series of simple but enjoyable windows games called 'best of entertainment pack'. These included games such as TriPeaks & Chips Challenge. I have always been able to run thse on later versions of windows up to XP, but on Wondows 7 (64bit) I cannot get them to run, even in compatibility mode. Does anyone know if this is possible, or have these games ever been updated?

    Hi,

16 bit programs will not run on 64 bit operating systems. You will not be able to play these games on Windows 7 64 bit. However, as a work around you can download Windows XP mode on your computer and then install the Best of entertainment pack on the vitual PC (XP Mode).

Windows XP Mode lets you run older Windows XP business software right on your Windows 7 desktop.

You can download Windows XP mode from the link mentioned below:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx

**NOTE:**Windows XP mode will run only if the computer supports virtualization.

i tried to run bowep after i upgraded to win10. it was a no-go.

but,,,,,,,,,,,i transferred the bowep floppy disk to a flash drive and, wa-la! my pc accepted it. i put the flash drive into my wife's pc and it said some type of file was missing and if i wanted to install it. i clicked 'ok' and now she has bowep on her pc. not sure if it will work on laptops or not.

If you still have your old Windows 3.1x diskettes, you could always install it inside of DOSBox and have a 16-bit environment running inside Windows Vista.  Alternatively, virtualization software, like VMWare, can be used to get Win 3.1x operating.  Though I'm running into an issue where it doesn't want to install BOWEP (the freebie that came with Verbatim diskettes works, though).

You could run the MGADiag tool from this website http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/ServiceRequest.aspx?displaylang=en to get a report about possible validation errors (or being non-genuine, hopefully not). What's possible, is that some files of the "software protection" subsystem are damaged; to verify that and to restore the originals, run "SFC /scannow" from a command prompt. Last thing I could think of are connection problems either from your or the server's side.

    Thanks,

I originally had Windows 7 home premium, which I understand cannot run XP mode. I have now upgraded to Windows 7 professionsl, using your anytime upgrade. My CPU supports virtualization

I still have a problem however, as I cannot install virtual PC properly. I get to the down load & install XP mode page, with the 3 files to download. When I try to download the first 'Windows XP Mode', I get a 'validation required' message.

I then click 'continue' to run the windows activation update, which appears to download, but each time I try to install XP mode I get the same validation required message. I can install the 3 download files by cancelling the validation , but cannot run virtual PC to get into XP mode. The problem appears to be with the validation stage.

I have tried deleting the contents of the 'Temp' file as advised in your 'Answers page', & rebooting, but without success. Also uninstalling virtual PC & starting again.

I have checked that I am logged on as an administrator, & that windows is activated in the control panel system security settings.

    What next?
