WINDOWS UPDATE NOT WORKING IN WINDOWS 7

Windows 7 Update has stopped working. It keeps going on forever checking for updates.  I have done everything suggested on the internet to resolve this and have had 2 chats with a Microsoft Tech who took over the computer but the issue has still not been resolved.  Is this something that is a problem now?  Can anyone out there help as I DO NOT want Windows 10 and wish to continue using Windows 7.

When manually installing updates you need to switch your update settings to Never check for updates and restart the machine first.

Make sure KB3020369 is installed if not manually install it,

    Win-7 32 bit

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=46827

    Win-7 64 bit

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=46817

    Then manually install KB3172605

    Win-7 32 bit,

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53335

    Win-7 64 bit,

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53332

After switch your windows update settings back to what you had prior and manually check for updates and the rest should show up shortly.

You're welcome and thanks for the update = no pun intended :)

I would however use this too to reset the services....

The M$ tech's may have already done it though but this method is better :)

Try using this to reset the update system it's very good,

Use Option 2 on the list after right clicking it and select run as administrator

    https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Reset-Windows-Update-Agent-d824badc

Download it to your downloads folder

Right click it and select Extract all to the downloads folder.

Then right click ResetWUEng and select run as administrator

Follow the rest of the prompts

    Press any key to continue

Type 2 for that Option on the list and the Enter key to reset update services..

Press y for Yes and then the Enter key I believe twice

    After it has completed

Type 15 for that option and the Enter key to restart the machine.

Should say will restart in 60 seconds save your work.... press any key to continue.

After restart go to windows updates and manually check for updates shouldn't take a few minutes.

If you want a more automated one use Option 3 here

Although like I said the above one is great :)

Thank you very much for your help. You are brilliant. After all I have tried and nothing worked and what you suggested worked straight away. The first download was already installed but after downloading and installing the second one it worked straight away.  Many thanks again. Dave
