Windows 7 installation from CD - requires CD/ DVD driver

Hi, I'm trying to install Windows 7 from CD onto a new machine (new HD as the old one failed).

I can get the machine to start the installation (I get to click on "install Windows 7"), but then immediately it requests a CD/DVD device driver saying it's missing.

The driver is highly likely to be missing as it's a new hard drive, however I can't proceed even though the machine can use the CD drive to recognise the Windows 7 disk and start the process of installing (from the CD drive), but can't proceed any further.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

This is a shot in the dark and doesn't make complete sense because the error message is complaining about a CD/DVD driver rather than a hard disk driver, but you might want to go into the BIOS and change the SATA option from Enhanced to AHCI (your LG BH12LS38 is a SATA device).

Not sure if it could be the windows installer.

The machine isn't brand new, but it's got a new SSD hard drive as the previous one failed. So this is a new HD for the operating system and device drivers (effectively a new machine from a software / operating system perspective). the machine also has a second hard drive but that is purely data.

It's also a never previously used instance of Win7 64 bit (I originally bought to upgrade the O/S on my laptop and never got round to it).

The machine does have a built in CD / DVD combo, an LB BH10LS38 to be precise, but it is the only CD drive in the machine (so doesn't have 2).

I've set the BIOS to boot from DVD, and the machine is booting from the Win7 disk, though it starts to load data, then gives me a Windows 7 screen offering the choice of "Install Now" or to repair (but as it's a clean HD there is nothing to repair).

The confusing things is as per POATT, I don't understand how the machine is recognising the disk and able to boot from it, but then suddenly decide it needs device drivers to continue.

The machine has never had Linux installed so thats not a factor.

    (I'm still confused and stumped).

Hi, exact error message is -

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

Note: If the Windows installation medie is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."

The windows 7 disk is a retail Windows 7 Home Previum Edition bought from a local authorised reseller.

    Thanks

Would you mind post back the exact error message?

    Are you booting from DVD?

Where did you get the Windows 7 disk?
